Duran Lantink - Designer, Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier

A non Grindr gay getting a big job in 2025.

Are they doing “real” rtw that will be produced?

Currently I see mostly stretch tanks and body con trompe l’oeil clothing on ssense as jpg rtw

Glad to see that movement of brands moving forward.
I’m really surprised to see that they are moving forward that quickly actually but he is getting recognized and winning prizes so it kinda validate what Gaultier sees (if the industry is noticing his talent). I hope Gaultier will continue the contemporary price point for the RTW.
The perfumes are so strong that they are a kind of safety net for whatever happens but imo they have done well with re-introducing RTW at Gaultier (that started again after the Glenn Martens show).

Now the guy from Standing Ground needs to be at Alaia.

Removing his namesake brand from the thread title - it apparently will be suspended to focus on doing both couture and RTW for JPG…

I really thought JPG's RTW was gone forever! It's a big surprise. Can't say that I'm ready to see JPG under another name than the man himself. Congrats to him though, it's huge!

I always worry when this happens because sometimes it can cause the designer to invest too much of their own POV into a brand that isn’t theirs, so the identity becomes really muddled.

Also it’s a shame to suspend an independent label. Not that I particularly enjoy his work, but JPG ready to wear just doesn’t really seem to fit with the now. Like, is it really that necessary? Like with Westwood, it’s mainly the merch “designer-lite” stuff that sells for the most part. Not an issue, but yeah do we really need this right now?

He never meant to keep his brand alive. ;)

The recipe is to create a brand as a portfolio, creating a momentum with the right stylist and PR agency then signing a nice contract at a brand and shut it down.

Nothing new.

He seems like a better fit for Loewe than Gaultier, no?
Loewe/LVMH would be a bit drastic for him, taking care of RTW, capsules, Paulas Ibiza, perfumes, candles, nomad, loewe craft.
JPG is also freer for a conceptual designer like him, as Lola said the perfumes are so strong its quite a safety net. Which is also what allowed the freedom of these guest couturier collections its like a marketing budget.

Even though my dream of seeing Olivier and/or Riccardo take a stab at his couture line is coming to an end, I'm happy to see that the designer merry-go-round is coming to an end as well. We may say "It couldn't get any worse than LDSS," but I'm sure it very well can.

Anyways, I wish him luck, and will gladly anticipate what he shows in January.
