Elie Saab Haute Couture F/W 10.11 Paris

Trust Elie Saab to make beautiful clothes. He may not be the innovator of the industry or known for his creativity in his collection. But I believe no one can deny that Elie Saab makes exquisite, stunning dresses that will look good on every woman and will make them feel good.

Some stunning pieces in here. Wouldn't mind to have the collection in my closet

i always think about elie saab and i believe that he is the only fashion house that PROFITS from haute couture very well. yes, his ready to wear is nice but Haute Couture is what bring in the money....as for riping off other designer i dont think its fair because 1. everything has been done before and 2. he has been doing these kind of elegant dresses before donna karan!!!

True, a LOT of Arab women order dresses from his HC regularly.
These 2 dresses are so similar to Donna Karan's signature draped dresses' style...its hard to deny...:blink:

Lovely collection but some pieces are quite boring. I dont like the printed dress, there are too many of them IMO in different styles for a couture collection.
The draped dresses are very much like his summer ready to wear collection nothing new there.

The problem with lebanese designers ,is that they make gorgeous gowns but there is no art or substance to them , they are just expensive prom or evening gowns to me. This is NOT couture. I only saw 3 pure couture collections , JPG , Givenchy and Dior .

Elie Saab & other Lebenese designers are actually much much cheaper than the European couture designers.

The Lebenese designers & Elie design more for the Arab world with a touch of European designs in them but the European deisgners design more for the European customers.

Mechanical, expected, redundant. Elie Saab is one of the handful designers who cranks out his collections as though there was a machine behind the designs rather than a human being.

Im sorry but if you think making random beautiful red carpet dresses counts as couture you missed the whole point of the story and art which forms the basis of couture. Yes I agree there is a lot of effort in these dresses but THIS IS NOT HAUTE COUTURE. Obviously you visited his atelier and feel a personal bias and all but sorry its not haute couture! period! As for Chanel , that was another glorified RTW collection as far as I am concerned.

Karolina wore the jewel in this particular design crown - the painterly watercolours on her dress are extraordinarily beautiful.

Nothing really new from him, but I love the print dresses and the red ones.

the most impressive effort we've seen from elie saab couture since he got on our radar with the halle berry oscar outfit.

There's a misconception that clothes have to be avant garde, groundbreaking and overtly theatrical in order to qualify as Haute Couture. It's wrong, that's not what Haute Couture is.

Thank you. It bothers me when people dismiss collections as "glorified RTW" or "not couture" because they are usually completely missing the point of what couture is. The clients are sure to love this collection (as do I). The details are what separate couture from RTW.

Where did you get this from? Haute Couture has always been about satisfying your clients by offering something more than the regular RTW pieces. Something with more detail, quality and design. Haute Couture has ALWAYS been a business. It's about the clients that a designer has a more personal relationship with. And just like any other business it MUST attract clients.

Biased? Sorry, but no. I'm not like that. His designs might be classic and nothing new in terms of design, but this does not mean that he doesn't "qualify" as Haute Couture. It just means he doesn't want to risk his reputation during a dangerous time in the economy. What do you think happened to Christian Dior?

You've made your point, which, I thought was very plausible. However, haute couture, just like everything else, especially because it is fashion, can mean numerous of things to numerous of people. For example, I think haute couture means individualism, creativity, innovations, etc. something you wouldn't find in another place from another time or another location. I simply thought your answer implicated something that shouldn't be taking in as a fact, but more of an opinion than anything else. What you think might be beautiful could be horrendous in another's eye. Like they've said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

I have a general question:

Everything in HC collection has to be handmade, if I recall the guidelines correctly. But Saab used prints in this collection. Further these prints seem to be machine-made.

Is this allowed?

Haute couture clothes do not have to be hand made.
