Everything Braids - tricks, tips, and pics

yep, those are fishtails. I still need to work on how to do them.

Ida - looks great! when you started are your right ear did you work your way down and around the nape of your neck and up to your forehead, or did you work your french braid up towards your forehead and then down around your nape? I can't tell from the pics!
I worked my way from my ear towards my forehead, my hair dresser cut layers in the front so I had to start there. It was really quick though

lostinemotion We just call them french braids :) Don't know why, though. Must be a Danish thing

I am really happy! I managed to braid the front of my hair (I have a fringe) without sticky outty bits! It looks cute!

The_Ida Lovely braid! I wish my hair was that long.

I still don't understand how you were able to do it though? Actually I've never really understood how people braid their hair like that.

After seeing Lauren Conrad with a side french bread that went across part of her forehead it looked super easy but I tried it and failed horribly. She must have had someone do it for her since it's incredibly difficult to do and keep tight.

i think because she has thick, one length hair..i have fine hair and it sticks out everywhere because of my bangs and layers.

didn't see this one before!! :flower: love them..
so, when i have short hair, i manage somehow to do something, OR i use my long-haired friends as white canvas:p

that one is very nice! i had it once, when i was able to find a poor devil who did it for me, but I looked awful in it!:lol:

i used to wear braids a lot when my hair was longer, but since i got layers it doesn't work any more. the braid will be very thin at the end and messed up now.

^^ That must have taken a lot of patience!
Even though I don't particularly like her, Lauren Conrad's hair looks super cute with braids.

love braids! i always have some sort of braids in my hair, mostly because they've stayed so long they're like a dreadlock haha. you can see some (one) in my profile picture.

I love this ladies hair. (Ignore the outfit, pose etc!)

The Hairline Braided Face Frame/2 Strand Twist
IBSphoto2.jpg

Instructions:
Starting on the right side of your head section off a triangle portion of hair from your hairline approximately 3" from your temple. Clip off this section while you repeat the same process on the left side of your head.
Begin braiding on the right side. Divide the section of hair you begin working with into two equal strands.
Cross the right strand over the left.
Place both strands in the left hand with the index finger inbetween. Keep the back of your left hand against the head at all times.
Starting at the hairline and continuing up toward your left hand, pick up 1-2" sections of hair with your right hand.
Add this section to the right or bottom strand.
Place these sections in your right hand, with the index finger inbetween.
Twist the right hand conterclockwise (the right strand twists over the left strand).
Keep repeating Steps 4 - 8 picking up 1-2" sections of hair as you mode down your head. Continue until you reach the nape and have no more hair to pick up. Clip this section out of the way and work on the opposite side.

oh! i didn't even see this thread before posting in the other one. i suppose i'll ask here too!

i saw this picture of this girl on livejournal;
Photo28.jpg

and was wondering if anyone can help me out on how to do it? i feel silly asking because it looks rather simple, but uhm.. i'm thinking i need bobby pins and i don't have any right now. tips?

^ I really want to know how to do that too, I try it on my hair but the braid is so much smaller and thinner on me, maybe my hair is just too thin?

^ How much hair are you using for the braid? It could be that her hair is thicker, but there's also the possibility that you didn't use a thick enough amount of hair. Just my guess - it's hard to tell from the picture exactly how thick/thin her hair is.
