Facials

I read once Heidi Klums regime in Elle and i've used it ever since! Steam face, exfoliate, then in a magnified mirror squeeze absolutely everything that needs it. Put some ice in a thin towel and hold on the areas you've squeezed to reduce swelling, then refresh with cold water. Pat your face dry then moisturise. Works for me!!

I would like to buy Queen Helene Mint Julep mask... but i don't think I can buy it in Vancouver.

How often do you guys do a facial? As in a deep-cleansing...or a PEEL?
I have Jason Deep-C Orange Peel... I wonder how often I should use it
I don't have a toner for use though:unsure:
Maybe I should get it to close pores afterwards?

^ Instead of a toner you can also use ice water to close your pores after a facial.

queen helene made me break out...
i don't know if it's because it's really dirt cheap and my skin is sensitive to some of the artificial stuff..
it does feel cooling and i do know another friend that uses it.
if you have very acne skin and oil, there is this black mask they sell at origins too...i think it's called charcoal or coal or something to that effect. i'm sure if you call and ask for their black mask they will know..sulfur maybe?

^charcoal mask? That sounds interesting. Probably works, lol. It is always the weird stuff that seems to work

thanks satin chic

well, i tried jason deep-c orange peel ... it doesn't really seem to get rid of the blackheads (if that's what they are. they're white actually.) maybe i have to steam or scrub them off after the peel :ninja:

Lostinemotion (and everyone else! ) I went to Sephora to pick up the PTR face scrub; unfortunately, they were all out. The SA did give me samples though, and I've got to tell you.... I LOVE IT! It really is very soft and leaves my skin very supple. Only thing is, I broke out like crazy the next day... I did fall asleep with my makeup on two nights before, however, and sometimes that occurs.... so I'm going to give it a couple more chances. Make sure there arent any other confounding variables next time I test out the scrub  But again, I can see why everyone loves it; it feels great on my skin... nothing like other scrubs that I've used.

in vancouver you might be able to get Queen Helene from those natural remedy stores in the malls. I got mine from a store called "morning sun" (or something along those lines) in calgary. i was surprised to see it on the shelf! the night before i was ready to order 2 tubes from amazon.

I heard facials are actually quite irritating is this true?

facials can vary so much from place to place that it really depends on where you go, the products they use and the process it's given.

I don't find the irritating at all at the spa I go to, in fact i love them. my skin is so soft and healthy looking after. But I have been to other places where I've found the facial I was given to cause a negative raction in my skin.

The only reason I'd really love to go to a spa for a facial is to get rid of the blackheads on my nose. I've tried steaming & then attempting to get them out myself, but that only led to a huge red mark on my nose that lasted about 2-3 days!

If you go to a reputed place, a facial can be complete heaven. I'd be lost without my facialist; I swear by her!

I know I've commented about facials before but I'm going to again.....

I think it largely depends on how well trained the facialist/aesthetician is, I started going to mine by word of mouth (which is the best way!). I've been going to her since I was probably 16, so 3 years or more. And since I've gotten older and my skin has changed I can definitely tell a difference if I miss going to her for a month or two because of my busy schedule. It seems like I can keep my face looking nice to a point but it still needs a deep cleaning/maintenance from someone trained. After she does the extractions, etc... I look flushed but very rarely are there any red sore spots, she puts some healing stuff on my face after she does the extractiond to keep the redness down. Oh and my skin feels so smooth afterwards!

I looked for the Queen Helene mask but haven't found it yet around here, I did end up buying Aztec Indian Healing Clay (mixing it with apple cider vinegar) and it totally works wonders!

Maybe you guys can help me with this - I had a facial when I went to a spa and swore I'd continue the routine at home. Since then I've managed to forget the order that things get done in, particularly the last few things. So if anything in this list looks like it's out of place, I'd love to know! :flower:

Cleanse
Steam
Exfoliate
Mask - clay on t-zone, moisturising elsewhere
Wash off
Toner (no alcohol)

this is where I lose the order - serum then oil, or the other way around?
Serum - with all the antioxidants and good stuff ^_^
Facial Oil - to hydrate
Moisturiser - to seal in the moisture from the oil

Wow ... so much goes on at facials ^^ as posted above from rainglow. And I cant answer your question but what do you mean by extractions? Can facials extract whiteheads??? I really NEED to extract my whiteheads off..

In terms of 'after care' for a facial, should I really be wearing make-up in the few days after the facial when the skin is still healing?

I wear liquid foundation, pressed powder, blusher and eye make up.... should I stay away from the foundation to let my pores 'breathe'?

thanks x

I love facials. I just get an Oxygen&Hydrating Facial every two or three weeks... My mom says I should be going more often...

Uk

Can anyone recommend a good site to find a facial in the UK?
I live in Brighton (south coast) which has quite alot of the stuff that London has. I've been recommended Clarins and Decleor, but I really want an extraction, and they don't do acne specific ones.

My skin is quite pink with mild acne
(yum)
Thankyou
xxx

cant answer your question since I'm not in the UK though my skin is so red after a facial.. I had my facial for the first time and it was pretty painful but all my clogged pores are GONEE!! yaya.. but my whole face is red .... so I have to wait for 1-2 days for it to heal..I'm quite happy overall.. next time I will NOT get extractions.. it kills so HARD.. I was literally crying but I think this is because I have so many clgoged pores!! I think I'll jsut sue good products and clgoged proes won't be there anymore..

once i had a facial and it was fine.
then i had another one a different time and the lady was awful, it made my skin sooo red and it hurt sooo badly, so never again with her.
i know it can make your skin red but this was awful.
