That's normal to break out after a facial..it's bringing everything to the surface. The scarring shouldn't be happening though.

does anyone in paris know of a good real place to get a facial? ( not typical spas that put a million things on your face) but something professional?

I used to go for monthly facials a few years back and it led to breakouts and scarring. I stopped and my skin became a whole lot better. But I'm keen on trying facials again at a new place though. Should I go to a salon, I'm thinking Clarin' Institute or a derm's office? I'm concerned with blackheads

How often should one usually have a facial? I have acne-prone skin and my blackheads on the nose seem to grow every day, so the cleaning effect wouldn't last long

It really depends on the person. You should ask a professional when you next go for your facial- what their recommendation is, how often you should go in, and tips to maintain your skin while outside the facialists' room. Usually, they say once a month is good. I had horrible skin as a teenager, and now, though it's getting better, I still have lots of scarring, so I'm particularly obsessed with skin care. My mum's got wonderful skin too, so it's always bothered me that mine isnt quite as good. Anyhow, I went to a facialist whom I adore and she does a wonderful job - my skin's never looked as good as it does now... in fact, I love her so much, I want to go every 2 weeks, but she herself said not to do it that often because it can irritate the skin. If you're doing a really deep-clean facial, you need to give your skin a little break in between.
Right after a facial, though my skin feels better, it generally looks much worse than when I went in, because all the impurities have risen to the surface. However, after 3 days or so, my skin glows for the next two weeks. I maintain my skin at home, and then within a month, I go back. That works best for me, but like I said, it really depends on your skin. Find a good facialist, have a facial, and if you like his/her work, talk to them about what they recommend.

I love them so relaxing too; the best bits are the steam and massage! In terms of giving a facial I love the extracting part!

What is a facial exaclty, like what does it do for your skin?

And if I have a wedding on a Saturday when do you think I should get it done?

Well, different people react differently to facials- if you have problematic skin, or lots of dirt underneath (or if you've never had a facial before, which sounds like you, shelbyo) you might get some redness on your face, a little bit of breakouts, because all the dirt is brought to the surface. Others have no reaction at all, and their skin looks amazing and fresh right out of the appointment. However, I wouldn't take a chance. I'd give it at least 3-5 days for your skin to clear up, before going to the wedding. Therefore, if it's on Saturday, I'd probably suggest a facial no later than Tuesday, and just take good care of your skin over the next couple of days to maintain that freshness. In fact, I have a huge party tomorrow, so I got my facial on Tuesday, and my skin has been steadily healing over the last few days- it was terrible on Tuesday/Wednesday, and I'm sure by tomorrow, I'll be glowing.

Anyway, hope this helped, Shelbyo! Esp. bc this sounds like it's your first, give it time. In general, don't try something new on an important day! :flower:

Oh, by the way, a facial is pretty much an hour-long or more deep, DEEP cleansing and moisturizing of your face (sometimes the facialist, as part of the relaxation will also massage your peripheries, like your arms, hands, feet, etc). Anyhow, a good facial will have a deep cleansing, extractions (when they take out the blackheads, dirt that's really deeply imbedded in your pores that's going to come out soon in the form of a nasty pimple, etc). It includes a scrub, maybe a microdermabrasion, etc. It's pretty much everything good you can do to your skin- cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing. And it feels amazing!

Has anyone tried Sothy's- the skin care line from Paris? My facialist recommended it to me, and I've been wondering how it's worked out for anyone else... to be honest, I've never heard of it, and I wanted to make sure that it was worth the money.

I don't do facials for the whole skincare thing. I just love the feeling of a facial massage and it's nice. It's like facial physical therapy or something. Makes me verge on passing out at times.
