Facials

Has anybody gotten a facial at a beauty school? Don't those places charge about half the price of professionals?

I got mine done at this place in nyc www.skincarelab.com
It was amazing! I would think my skin was pretty decent and take care of it more than the average person. Yet, when she put the "blue" light on to see the hidden grime, she told me that there were tons of blackheads. So she squeezed them all out. It was so satisfying! I push my own out on my nose in general, but I guess alot are hidden and they know how to do it, especially after seeing it under the light.
I got the glycolic facial. It felt so good. I want to get one, once a month..

Thanks for starting this thread, I've always been curious! So do extractions come with all facials (even the ones that are around $50 rather than $90)? Do extractions hurt? How often are facials needed?

I think it depends on your thresh hold for pain. If you can stand someone squeezing your skin on every square inch, then you should be fine. I do anything in the name of beauty and so disgusted with the thought of hidden blackheads or congestion that I don't mind. My eyes water a little, but if you tell them it hurts, then they will calm down a bit.
Some places don't do extractions on the first visit, but most do! :-)

I have a "teen facial" once a month because obviously I'm a teen:P She does extractions and a really good mask on me. Plus every other session I pay extra for a seaweed mask so then the total price is like $65 (I think that's how much it is including the seaweed mask, it's extra). I actually have a pretty high tolerance for pain because I know she's getting stuff out that would normally come out later so I'd rather her do it and then put a mask on to close up the pores. My skin always feels nice and smooth like the day after! But I don't plan on going anywhere after I get a facial cause sometimes you can be sorta red:rolleyes:

I wonder if facials make any diffrence at all?

I have never noticed a difference. :innocent: I use a little brush on my face a couple of times a week, and that seems to be fine for my skin. Also - when I'm eating well, my skin seems to be doing well.

Do facials really get rid of blackheads? I have a couple on my nose I'd really like to get rid of if possible. Does it hurt?

well it all depends on how many extractions she has to do to you.. If you have blackheads on your nose they can extract them and then close the pores up with a mask. Just ask them what kind of facials they have and they will explain it to you. And if you don't want to be really red or get a good cleaning facial then tell the person and they won't do so many extractions. But yes if you let them do their thing you will be a little red, they bring the stuff to the surface by steaming your face for a little bit so really they just get rid of the stuff that was going to come anyways..

ohh good glad it did make sense.. I Know I didn't use all the right terms/lingo:P

if you'd used all the terms and lingo i wouldnt have gotten any of it:blink:

makes me want to go and try one now! the only thing that was stopping me was the worry of breaking out later on! :ninja:

I feel facials do make a difference. I have been doing them since I was 15 and my skin looks even younger than my younger sister's. I think the sooner the better.
If you have blackheads on your nose, they will push them out. Usually with their own two fingers ( I usually push them out myself too after a bath, but the facialist can really get to wher you don't really see ( but others prob do!)
I think breaking out is normal, but doesn't always happens, depends on the type of facial you get. It is because it brings things to the surface but after a couple of days you will feel like your skin looks really nice and supple. That's why it's good to go once a month or every 2.
Better to pay a little now, than later with surgery ( ewwww)

just dont do a facial right before a big event as some people tends to get red or break out even more right after one!:flower:

i get a microdermabrasion every month---my skin is so much smoother and "drinks" moisturizer way better.

The good thing about facials is that, when performed by somebody who actually knows what they're doing, it leaves you feeling like you have a whole new face..I went for one last nite after work, and when I stepped out into the cold, crisp nitetime air, the facial along w/ the cold air just made my skin FEEL a lot better...

Anybody from Toronto, Canada have any recommendations for a good but affordable facialist? By affordable I mean around about $50 -$60.

Pshah! Don't ruin my fantasy Kim :P I'm going for my first ever professional facial this weekend and I'm so excited :woot:

But hopefully I'll pick up some tips for home use, since I can't do that all the time  Do you have any you can share?

my home facial . . . :P !
