i don't think it's a matter of being technical with the 10 heads... it's more to just emphasize the elongated proportions of the fashion figure. once you get used to these proportions, your figures should loosen up a bit and stip being stiff. it's all about putting movement into them.

I don't like to be too precise. I have a sketchbook FULL and all of them are more ARTISTIC disproportionate figures but you can also see the clothing on them pretty clearly. Turn sketching into a hobby - make it fun - something you do when you're bored. That way when you need to get serious, you've learned many of your own personal do's and dont's as everyone has a different eye.

But that's just my opinion and I'm no expert. Anyway, good luck!

Art materials/techniques: Looking for tips!

hullo. i couldn't find a thread on the sorts of art materials/techniques we use for art/illustration/design and such, so i decided to make one. yeah..so we can discuss the best art supplies...paints..brushes...etc.... as well as cool techniques.. Yah
first Q: anyone know which markers work the best? tria markers.. tombow... or prismacolors? i get so lost when i go to the art store. (they're so pricey too!)

uberQuirkiness I'm not sure about markers...I've never really used them.

Coloured pencils though...I use Karismas, but unfortunately they've recently been pulled off the market...I really don't know why, I can't imagine they'd gone bankrupt because they're a very popular make. The pencils are fantastic quality but rather expensive, they have a really beautiful waxy finish and are great for blending. You might still be able to pick some up that shops have bought before they went out of production...or even possibly on ebay. You can pay upto about 140GBP for a box of 120

For markers, I've always used cheap, whatever brand ones. No problems with them whatsoever! Even Crayola markers work fine. Prismacolors I've always wanted to try out, but they're so expensive!

Good watercolor? I like Talens, the Rembrandt ones.

Karisma, originally a Berol UK brand, is the Sanford U.K. brand name for the Prismacolor range produced by Sanford here in the US market. Originally Berol produced the Karisma in UK, but production was eventually consolidated into the US either by Berol or later by Sanford after their acquisition of Berol. I expect this is likely why certain colors were eliminated from the Karisma selection in order to conform to the Prismacolor selection here in the US where there is higher sales volume.

The Karisma pencils use the same cedar casing and color cores as Prismacolor. Though they are left with a natural woodgrain finish and an interesting angled end cut which is a unique feature.​

For those who don't know, Sandford Berol area global company, making pencils all over the world, just slightly different for each country, for some reason. they could not use Prismacolor for the UK as someone else had the bramnd name, so Prismacolor pencils are made under the name KarismaColor. I can vouch for them being the same pigments - I have tried both. they look very different, with Karisma having a natural wood barrel, shaved off at an angle at one end, BUT - THE NUMBERING IS THE SAME. 901 is Indigo blue in both sets, and the same colour. However, there are lots of other differences!

Several names are different (US First, UK name second)

904 Light Cerulean Blue - Light Blue
913 Spring Green - Green Bice
917 Sunburst yellow - Yellow Orange (not to be confused with 1002 Yellowed Orange)
919 Non photo blue - Sky Blue
921 Light vermillion - Vermillion
922 Poppy red - Scarlet Red
927 Pale Peach - Light Peach
928 Blush pink - Blush
931 Dark Purple - Purple
933 Blue Violet - Violet blue
941 Light Umber - Raw Umber
944 Terra Cotta - Terracotta
947 Dark Umber - Burnt umber
949 Metallic silver - Silver
950 Metallic Gold - Gold
956 Lilac - Violet
995 Mulberry - Bright Purple

hm. well are there any free model templates out there? ones that you could use to draw from. the only ones i've come acrossed didn't look, well human. and all were girls. i need a guy one too.

Uhm, i've done loads of research, and none are free. I know of www.fashion-templates.com, & metrofashion.com...
First site has the nicest looking ones though... They have one male one on the last page of the templates page...
Metrofashion is just cool for images and stuff...

I googled "croqui" in google image search, that's how I found the ones I use.

Dunno - i found that "fashion figure templates" and "fashion pose templates" gave me the best results. Croqui or croquis gave a diagrammatical human templates. Fashion Era has some OLD fashion templates, but they're practically unuseable... You just have to pay though, the best ones cost money. The www.fashion-templates.com one is $9.95 and so is www.fashion era.com - That is cheap...

could you? that would be so awsome! see i'm looking for some cuz i have a fashion and art project on this so yea. the model my fashion teacher gave me, the guy looked like he was in his 40's and his arms were deformed.

but yea if you could do that, that would be awsome! (you or anyone; than i'd have different poses lol)

what i'm looking for is a male model silluette who's in his late teens early 20's. and is average built.
(no clothing on. the project is to draw clothing on the models)
see i just have a hard time finding a good one. cuz i want mine to look relistic (spelling)

if anyone could do that, i'd be so happy. and also, they would get credit for the model. (yea i suck at drawing ppl lol)

The picture looked better when I didnt use marker pen, because it was so thick I had no controll
