Does anyone have pics of Mounia or Aria?

Mounia in the mid 80s. She was a runway girl mostly, didn't really do much print. Photo Credit:Amistad press

I will post the few I have of Aria & Mounia in a few days I have to scan them; they were never big models. Although Aria was the 1st blackmodel in Ralph Lauren ads(1989).

At the risk of being stoned I can't stand Naomi-her attitude stinks and I think she is played out.

Thanks Omi. :flower: I just read about the two of them, how Mounia was Yves St Laurent's muse. Also, I just found out Pat Cleveland was in the s/s 2004 show for Bill Blass, doing her signature runway dramatics. :p I tried to find a video, but no luck.

Well I figured that. I know many people are jealous of her success whether they want to admit it-how she broke through then their favs didn't/can't. And she is still around like it or not, so most people find her special. That's why she is going strong for 20 straight years. NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE IT, especially no one black. But I just hate it when people judge her personally when they never met her. And the business is filled with so much hype, being under the radar and a target you can't believe all the negative B/S. We all have bad days and grow up just that no one is documenting it. Either way I understand her and love her, she is Queen of blackmodels(along with being among the top of the most successful of all colors) period she has done the most, although I love Iman who is Naomi's only true competiton. It's lonely at the top! So right on Naomi. Like her or not, you have to respect her. She has done tons for blackmodels. There are blackmodels I don't like either but I respect just about all of them.

Omi, I hope I haven't upset you, I totally see your points, I'm not jealous, but Naomi isn't my girl. I hope we can still be friendly.

I'm not upset. Naomi's got the career & fans, she isn't hurt by this. You haven't changed my views or history. Many people are jealous. I just get weird about people getting negative about someone they don't know especially a minority who has done so much for others. More good than bad. It's fine to say I don't really 'get' so and so, but to kinda go off on them is kinda wild IMO as a minority myself.

I know who you're talking about. She was posted a few pages back.

Who? Do you know her name please? I'm sorry I looked through the whole thread and didn't see her once.

Sorry, her name escapes me. I'm pretty sure it was this thread. Let me go see.

LOVE Chrystele!!! I think she did more runway than editorial, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I know you will, but back in the mid-90s didn't Veronica Webb and Naomi start a sort of guild/union of black models in order to deal with their lack of representation on runways? I remember Essence doing something on it. Also, didn't Veronica write a book or something in the mid-90s?

Hey, wasn't Jayne Kennedy a big model as well?

I think you're talking about the girl with a lot of freckles, wild hair, lighter skinned model with full lips? I could have sworn I saw her pic in this thread, but I can't find it.

Yeah this is true, along with Iman & Bethann. Webb's book is "Sight Adventures in the Big City(1998)".
Jaybe Kennedy was a pageant girl, who later worked for ESPN, not a model.
