kelsbags said:OK, girls....I just put applegard conditioner on my new cognac spy. There was a teeny bit of color on my cloth when I was done. It was very faint. Do you think over time that the color is going to rub off like Pink Lady's cognac spy? I'm not sure whether I like that or not. In one sense, it kind of gives it a vintage look and it looks neat, but can I expect this to happen all over the bag? Do all cognacs get like this over time?
kelsbags- whatever discoloration you already have will not go away, but you can reduce the effect, as well as prevent furthur discoloration with frequent conditioning and careful bag handling.
my personal theory is that the discoloration results from constant friction from bag handling or from the top of the bag rubbing against the main panel.
the action is abrasive and drying to the leather which is untreated.
obviously try not to be too hard on your bag to prevent discoloration.
but beyond that, i think the conditioner replenishes the natural moisture that gets removed from handling. i use the conditioner once a week, not on the entire bag, just on the parts where the leather is especially stressed: i.e. on the main panel where the top compartment rubs up, on the base of the handles, along the top panel edges. wherever it looks dried out and discolored.
try it! i think it will definitely help. my sis is alot harder on her bags and her dark brown spy used to have significant discoloration. but after i conditioned and guarded her bag a few times, it looks much much happier and it definitely hasn't gotten any worse.
