i just saw the silver spy at barneys, and yes, i think that's right. it's almost like a pearlized silver w/ faint gold splotches.

gg: the texture was matte, soft, and squishy. not crunchy when squished. however, i'm not sure there was a coating per se, either. it basically feels exactly the same as the petrol except it feels "tackier" when you touch it, if that makes any sense.

i thought the silver spy was very pretty. the woven handle is cool (gold/white), the lining is different (taupe colored linen), and the spy compartment is soooo cool (signature zucca in gold- wowza )

however, somehow the color was less than what i expected. it could be that the leather looks stunning outdoors under sunlight, but i guess i was expecting more of an iridescent effect. if you don't look closely, it only faintly looks like it's shaded from silver to gold to slight blue...it still basically looks silver if that makes sense.

thankfully we have both ordered ours so that we can both check it out under sunlight. i plan to keep the bag if the leather looks more iridescent in daylight. but otherwise i'd rather spend the money on the b. fendi which i'm falling more and more in love with every trunk show (which i know is hard to believe. )

Thanks Guess we'll see when we get ours! I'm hoping I like it. I'm thinking they're prabably not all the same either. Even witht he petrol which is one solid color I've seen lots of variation.

Cougess, they didn't have the "technicolor" shearling when I was there, however my friend lizziechic sent me a pic of it. I can't say I liked it at all.

I agree - the bag was very unattractive. I was just very surprised that such an ugly bag was more expensive than the lovely python!

I, too, have a cognac, and now I really want a hologram. Petrol is gorgeous, but was it a fall color? I'd just call a Fendi boutique (although they don't have the greatest rep ...), or Barney's. They are wonderful. Good luck!

Thank you ALL for your compliments and well wishes on my new Python Spy!
I sincerely appreciate it... Now just waiting for the weather to warm up and dry out so I can carry it.

Here are pics of the rest of the "family". I really need to consider eliminating two, maybe three. Presuming that I'll keep the Python, which one or two others should I keep as well? They all have their merits!

Cognac ~ amazing texture and easygoing; i'm not afraid to "use" this one.
Black ~ again, amazing texture for nappa and i need a basic black bag.
Arciadia (Taupe/Purple) ~ this was my first Spy, so has a special place in my heart. Also, the "lizard" leather is ridiculous.
Hologram ~ this bag 'glows'. great in all seasons and at night. great in bad weather, too.

SPYCRAZY!, you have such a lovely spy family, it's so sad that you have to give two up! (stop the heartache at 2!)

The Python is out of consideration so that's good.

Between the hologram and the cognac, perhaps you can consider giving up one, as they are similar in shade in the sense that one appears to be the metallic version of the other.

The Taupe and purple spy is gorgeous!
Do you have another black bag to use as your everyday bag?

I really don't envy your position at this point in time..I would really have a hard time deciding which one to let go....
