Geek Glasses

Here's a metaphor that sums up my feelings on this trend:

Just as chinese symbol and/or arabic script tattoos DON'T make you more spiritual, wearing fake glasses DOESN'T make you any smarter!

The whole ironic nerd trend is really irritating. Nothing irritates me more than self-proclaimed nerds (who, of course, aren't nerds at all). Nerds don't go to parties, nerds don't go to art school, nerds don't shop at Urban Outfitters!!!!

I love this trend but only on certain people. It doesn't look good on people trying too hard. I like the tortoishell ones, not the black though.

quote of the day! :flower:
I liked the whole hipster thing a bit, but it got old before it started properly. The "I'm sooo cool because I wear nerdy glasses, dress like a hipster-nerd and I listen to The Teenagers, and yes I knew of them before everyone else because I check fluokids twice-a-day"-trend is getting a tad old, sorry. (Or, not old, just stale - we knooow casettes and c64 is cool, get over it)

And just as a general disclaimer: This is a slag off to the people who just gets into this whole "package-deal, instant cool-just add human"-deal. There are lots of cool nerds out there :woot: )

^I completely agree!!

Well, I'm engaged to one so I can clarify that for you. He knows the first & last names of nearly every leader in the world, he is an avid fan of Star Trek & Dr. Who, he was bullied as a child for being dorky, he's tall, lanky and pale not because it's trendy but b/c he's naturally that way, he earned straight A's his entire life, he graduated with an MA from the University of Chicago (international relations), he looks for hidden military bases in North Korea with googlemaps, he checks BBC.com 50 times a day, he wears glasses b/c *gasp* he actually can't see without them, he maintains records of how many consecutive times he can bounce a ping pong ball off of his cricket bat (over 400)...and he isn't concerned with fashion, he hates Urban Outfitters, and he doesn't fetishize shi*ty 80's trends.

p.s. He's the coolest f***ing guy in my book and I'm totally in love with him ;)

i hate them with the punched out lenses and myspace pout that come with them. eww.

aww that is so sweet. i want to find myself a nerdy boy!

well, my view on this trend... i'm geeky myself, and I do have ridiculously bad vision. I go to a pretty good university. i happen to like vintage frames. I like star trek, actually. so i whole-heartedly approve of geek glasses for actual use. none of that non-lens or non-prescription business!

^ Agreed:blush: Congratulations Fabulyss!:flower:

As for myself, I hate geeky glasses and avoid wearing my prescription glasses avidly because I am a geek, and do not need a brazen branding to make me more so. :ninja:

we can all be nerdy in different ways, to be honest...i wouldn't miss doctor who on a saturday night, i have embarassingly high scores on guitar hero but you don't lose 'nerd cred' the moment you step in UO.:lol:

I have always loved geek glasses and was wearing them in the early 2000's before it was a trend. I would take the lenses out of them lol. Now that it's a big trend it feels a little stupid.. It's no longer funny or ironic. But I still love the way they look, and I hope they go out of style soon so I can wear them again

I feel like the whole nerd glasses thing has finally caught up with me and its kinda annoying to see people in nerd glasses trying to be cool. and then I get seen as a "posuer". I wear glasses cause I need them and it just so happens that I like mine bold.

I was called steve urkel when I was a kid. :( Tragic memories.
