What a truly disheartening spectacle this was. Boring, just boring. Normally at these awards, among the sea of blandness, there is at least a few stunners and a stable of disasters for the laughs, but last night the red-carpet had no pulse.
I truly think that fashion blogging has killed red-carpet fashion. Now that bloggers are taken seriously both by the fashion industry (front row seats, etc.) and by the tabloid press, anyone with an Internet connexion and an opinion can make or break an actress' sartorial credibility.
Actresses used to take risks and fall flat or win. Even last at last year event you could see some semblance of daring (misjudged daring for the most part, but at last I wasn't so bored). Now they just go for the crowd pleaser snooze-fest that are neither so fashion forward that they would risk mainstream backlash nor so tacky that they can really be trashed for their choise.
R.I.P., Hollywood glamour.
PS: to all those who are surprised by Avatar's BP win, please remember BP is and has always been a populist prize. IB was clearly the superior movie but that's not was this prize is about, it's a crowd pleaser. It will probably win BP at the Oscars too (Titanic all over again).
