Good vintage ebay sellers

I love Etsy.

What I would say to people shopping on ebay for vintage is to SHOP AROUND! Don't just go to the popular sellers who are mentioned in all the blogs, chances are those sellers get blogged because they are sending the bloggers FREE CLOTHES! Indiecult sends Susie Bubble stuff and Nastygal hooks up Kingdom of Style. It's no secret at all.

But you see something you like on a blog, do an eBay search for similar items. MichelleYue is correct, most of the stuff you see flying for $200+ can be had for less than $50 if you just spend a little time looking.

I mean, for real, would you pay $543 for THIS?

i always assume items are not vintage. call me jaded, but i buy items i like for a price i am comfortable with.

my best friend has some great pieces!!
clochevintage!

she has a great herrera dress from the 80's....and a dior 70's onesie

this is an amazing lot of victorian and modern vintage clothing, if I were a fashion designer I would be scooping up the fabric samples by the lot...really worth 15 minutes to browse this catalog.

I know a lot of people here shop vintage on eBay and I just wanted to give everyone a warning about the influx of new merchandise being sold as vintage by some of the top tier sellers.

It was recently discovered that Nastygal vintage has been buying multiples of a BRAND NEW purple fringe flapper dress from a costume shop and selling as vintage 80's cocktail dress. She paid $39 for it and is selling for $200-$400 a pop on the basis that it is vintage and one of a kind. If you want to see the proof, check out these auctions:

The first one was "sold" to a friend of hers (actually, Spanishmoss was shilling the auction for her) and Nastygal in turn sent Second Chance Offers to three other unknowing buyers claiming the dress was one of a kind and original.

She bought the dresses here:

Her undercover Buyer IDs are hungry.freaks and sock.it.to.meee

This is just one of many scams out there. If you have a warning story, please post because this behavior is despicable and people need to know they aren't always getting what they think they are.

Woah I really like their store too , thanks for the info.

Wow, this thread has made me really paranoid. I don't really care as the shops I use don't get that high in price, if I like the item I'll buy it. But in my search for new vintage shops I'll have to be wary.

Urgh, I didn't know about these scams, now I'm worried. I was interested in a dress from Thriftwares but missed out on the auction, now I've been notified it's been relisted. Could it be a scam?

I'm noticing a surge of these "bohemian Mexican embroidered dresses" from like every single seller. They all say one of a kind of course but the next seller has a dress almost exactly like it.

I haven't seen Thriftwares be accused of any fake-vintage or shilling activities. I've been browsing their auctions for about a year and haven't come across anything suspicious. No personal experience with them though.

Edit: And yeah, those Mexican dresses are all over the place... If you want one, definitely shop around a bit, don't just rely on the few popular trendy sellers - chances are you can grab one for much cheaper elsewhere.

I've been scammed so many times by eBay sellers, and there are no recourse, I'm about to give up. A very common practice is to get their buddies to bid up the prices, so you end up paying the maximum. If you find a good seller, just keep going back to that one. My own favourite is a seller by the name of "kaliman" who sells beautiful designer vintage, usually pricey but also lots of fantastic bargains. I got a pair of D&G patchwork boots for $50 once, and I saw a pair of white snakeskin Marc Jacobs boots sold for $110. I can't find sellers again with the stupid search function, but I like "kaliman"'s boutique.

That's awful it keeps happening Zazie. eBay didn't help the cause by making bidders names private.

Yeah maybe. But I just found it odd, also a lot of her/his items go for 100+, is that normal for no-brand vintage?

Does anyone have any experience with the eBay users julypoppy and timelessvixen? I've read that the latter purchases items off eBay and then resells them as vintage - can anyone confirm if this is true or not? Just curious, as both have some neat items up for sale.

I don't know about julypoppy, but timelessvixen does buy & resell (she also has a bad rep for misrepresenting items). Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong with buying on eBay and reselling on eBay. It's a free country and it's business. It just takes the magic out of it when in a few clicks, you can see what they're buying and how much they are paying!

Thanks for the information! I don't mind either, but I was just curious to know if the rumors were true or not. My only problem is how expensive timelessvixen's items go for - I've never been able to win one of her auctions because the prices skyrocket at the last minute!
