Somebody once told me that Gucci is actually quite high quality, and even their logo canvas stuff is resilient, and well made. Fendi I am somewhat ambivalent about. Any other opinions?

i've had a black mono gucci for 4 years now, simple hobo, bought it on a whim when i was in rome, have used it often for as long as i've had it and it's in great shape. shows no wear at all except for some rubbing on the bottom corners, i still get compliments on it regularly (which is odd b/c generally i find black mono canvas boring, i bought this when i was 17 and have since come to value bags that are more interesting.) i also have a gorgeous suede gucci bag i find to be of superior quality.
personally, i adore fendi, but i've never had a logo anything by them. i have a crazy rhinestoned mama baguette that i never use, so i've never had problems with the strap . . . i must say though that i have a python box bag from several seasons ago that i brought with me on a 2 week trip to san francisco and used almost every day, got caught in the rain a couple times, kept its shape and color, excellent quality, LOVE that bag!
i also have a ponyhair YSL mombasa that i love, i wear it a lot and its hair has never rubbed off at all, which i like
and though you may not be interested in these bags, if you are looking for the absolute best leather or suede . . . Bottega Veneta.
about that messenger, i like it, but for the same price you could get an LV Broadway, which is what i carry my schoolbooks in-- same size and shape, but the damier is both more durable and more subtle . . . i also like the naviglio for a slightly smaller option . . .
