Old Spice- my grandfather wears (mixed with something else, maybe? I'm not sure what else he wears)
Chanel Antaeus for men-
My dad wears this, and the scent makes me think of him. To make it exactly right, add a bit of...
Denorex dandruff shampoo- my dad uses (used?) it, so I associate it with him/his smell.
Estee Lauders Pleasures (combined with subtle powdery makeup smells)-
my mom when she was about to go out when I was little. She still wears the perfume and I still love it.
Dove unscented soap
Turpentine, Windsor and Newton brand
I guess I have good associations with this. It's a very nice, pine-y smell.
My two favorite stuffed animals and my baby blanket- mmmmmm.
Hanne, you're right about Barbies. I still remember that smell.
Elyse, I agree about the envelopes. I love that.
Leather
Books- especially new ones or very old hardcovers (not old paperbacks--they tend to smell musty in a bad way)
The smell at the skating rink that I used to go to all the time--rubber? Anti-freeze?
Peppermint-scented things (like my peppermint soap, mmm...or the Aveda conditioner that the woman who cuts my hair puts in)
Gillette shaving gel, unscented? (green bottle--I think it's intended for men? My brother uses it)
My older brother smells really good. I don't know what he uses other than Gillette (and I think Mitchim unscented)
Olay complete- smells like my mom, or like...I don't know. Good things. I like the unscented and the normal scent.
My friend smells like bubble gum and something else, although I'm not sure what that something else is. It's not an ordinary sweet/flowery or musky perfume smell. It's more like some sort of odd spice or something. Perhaps it's her soap. Anyway, the mixture is nice.
Actually, I think I tend to like how my friends smell in general. Wow does that sound weird.
Guys tend to smell really nice. Not when they have bad b.o. and smell icky, and some guys just don't have it in general. It's just that certain guys that I tend to hug--they smell great in a very...male sort of way? I can't explain it at all. Does anyone else know what I mean?
My stepmother smells like some sort of spice as well, sort of. It suits her perfectly and I really like it. It's a perfume combined with her own soap/self/detergent, and it smells very nice and also unique.
Lipstick combined with face powder and White Shoulders (I think) perfume- My grandmother's hugs smell like this. Or they did. Her smell/scent has kind of changed through the years, but I still have associations with what she wore when I was little.
Paper- many different types. I like the smell of a new pad of sketching paper, a package of printer paper, those great colored/handmade/textured papers that they sell by the large sheet or ream, normal lined paper.... It smells fresh and new in a nice way.
Certain desk supplies: Computers, tape (duct tape, packing tape, masking tape, and normal clear tape), newly sharpened pencils...
Certain makeup products that I have
Brown paper bags from the grocery store
There's a certain smell in the field next to my school that smells like cross country season. Then there's another scent in the school that is freshman year. These smells bring up mixed feelings.
Snow smells lovely. Rain smells better, especially when there's thunder and lightening. Dirt smells good, too.
Have you ever smelled something that's attatched to a random memory from a long time ago when you weren't expecting it and been thrown into that memory for a second? It's like the lobby of my elementary school suddenly smacks me in the face and for a millisecond I'm walking through it again. Or I'll smell something that's so familiar and yet I can't quite place why because the memory is so specific. It's weird to think about this, but it can be really nice to suddenly smell something familiar that brings you back to something.
That reminds me. The smell of burning rubber makes me think of walking down the hallway from the bus to my third grade classroom and passing the cafeteria. Mmm, chicken nuggets for lunch. Ugh.
Wow, that's a lot of smells. There should be a thread for smells we hate, too, because now I just have to add that I HATE the smell of the heat in the car...dry heat, ugh, and it smells...ugh, so bad. I can't explain it, but I hate this so much, especially because most cars do this and people tend to let it get way too hot when they first turn on the car's heat. HATE.
