Gwen Stefani's new Harajuku Line...

It looks bad-just lyrics from her album on regular tees and hoodies.
I believe shopbop has some stuff from this line.

i dont understand this japanese fixation of hers either....
it almost seems disrespectful, IMO...
taking hold of a culture and a style and maximizing profit...
smart, perhaps?....
but respectful?...i dont know..

I have to disagree. I really don't understand why people bring up Gwen Stefani as disrespecting Harajuku or Japanese culture. It just shows a "fundamental misunderstanding" of the culture itself. I did a research paper on it a little more than a year ago, and didn't find anything really substantial that someone could disrespect. It's about dressing up, expressing oneself, fitting in, standing out, etc. I mean who cares if some teenager without a clue buys something from L.A.M.B. or HL and thinks they're posing for Fruits. I mean I know lots of teens who buy a pair of skinny black jeans and think they're punk.

It's like saying Vivienne Westwood disrespected punk culture. Not that I'm comparing Viv to Gwen by ANY means. But, Viv brought punk to the American forefront and profited from it.

Anyway, these are just plain old t-shirts and hoodies. Its not like she put too much of a design element for there to be so much criticism. Yes, I hate when singers/actors come out with clothing lines, as well. They should have their own show on FOX, "When Celebrities Design !" But, honestly, her stuff isn't terrible.

judging by the prices lamb bags are going for on ebay, i'll definately be buying a few of the new handbags....to sell later on B)

about the line itself-its not my style but hey. the one thing that bugs me is the price, i post on a music site where alot of teens post and they were talking about this line and ALL saying "48 dollars for a t shirt?? theres no way i'll be able to buy that". imo its lame to call it a more affordable line aimed at her younger fans, and then price it at prices only successful adults can afford :/

i did like some of the lamb stuff tho..i liked the old english lettering

if i remember it correctly, i think i saw the olsen twins ( mk or ashley?) wearing this banana shirt in white. when i find the pic i'll post it here.

Stefani is antichrist

Ah.AH.Ah.Ah.AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEVIL!!!!!!!! :yuk:
ps. did anyone ever see a serie of South Park when all the kids get obsessed with japanese cartoons which is actually a disguised japanese propaganda aimed to brainwash the american youth into rising against the government? I think this is whats happening with Stefani. This obsession with Japan is very very dodgy

And your opinion seems very very dodgy...this is bordering on racism
imho

When I first got an email promo about Gwen's Harajuku Lovers camera, I had to look up what Harajuku even is. From what I read this movement in its pure form is pretty much dead. So which is worse, glomming on to a dead trend or creating your own Hot Topic styled line to make a buck off of it?

Oh Gwen, I actually thought you were cool at one point in my life…

i hate how she uses those girls its like they are slaves..it offends me..and i hate her line here

how can they be a slave when they are being paid? they would bet to differ. plus they get to go where she goes....for a non-entity, that is more than u can ask for!

Quote Quote ...... WHAT?
How can anyone be offended? She found her Galliano slash Japanese "human decor" hmmm something "style" - that's it. The fact she is really annoying and that it is a complete commercial scam is something else...

showbiz baby...ain't real!

I agree with the other replies, what's up with the japanese obsession? Her four back-ups are always at her back anywhere she goes as far as i know!:D

looks like she's heavily inspired by hysteric glamour too.

gosh, all this pushing of 'japan' is quite i dunno, gauche? what i mean is, she needs to let it go a bit because it feels like a forced trend at the moment.

Sure I think it’s annoying. But it’s a performance display, her new best friends aka the Japanese girls are there to spice up the whole illusion.
There is absolutely no reason to be upset about this - except maybe thinking about how much fun they must have or getting paid quite a bit to dance, stand around and look stone-faced or what ever ….. or

I think being open-minded would be better and ask questions instead. Just see what you get out of watching a music video...... Or maybe you do know the whole story behind the scene?
Real life issues/ watching the news are far more upsetting?

from today's wwd...she's releasing a lower priced line called Harajuku Lovers: A Fatal Attraction to Cuteness. :innocent:

"This is part of Gwen's big fantasy," Sara Scargall, design director at Jerry Leigh, who is collaborating on the line with the pop superstar, told WWD. "Gwen wants to give back to her fans. She wants everybody in the family to access this in terms of price points, silhouettes and categories."

In fact, Harajuku Lovers is a response to what Stefani noted is a limited market for her successful designer contemporary collection, L.A.M.B., which she is taking to the New York runway during fashion week next month. Unlike L.A.M.B., and its co-branded products with LeSportsac and the new sneaker collection with Royal Elastics, Harajuku Lovers wholesales between $20 and about $45.

"Everything will retail for under $100," said Scargall. "That was important to Gwen."

Also key is that the line remain active, Scargall added, and everything be cut from supersoft grinded or enzyme-washed cotton and fleece. Edges are raw and hemlines extended to add to the slouchy, street-informed, borrowed-from-boyfriend look. That is, except for the six-style intimates line of panties, camis, bras and drawstring lounge pants. Denim, she noted, is nowhere on the drawing board.

The graphics and allover prints of the two first groups draw directly from this year's hit songs and videos from Stefani's platinum-selling solo effort "Love. Angel. Music. Baby." The "Tick Tock" group riffs on the "Alice in Wonderland" theme in the "Watcha Waitin' For" video, while the "Banana" collection calls to mind her current chart-climber, "Hollaback Girl."

From season to season, the line, Scargall noted repeatedly, "is lyrically inspired. In one song, Gwen sings about mixing and mismatching, and that's what she wanted for the line."

The line will begin trickling in at Urban Outfitters stores and select specialty boutiques such as Kitson in Los Angeles and Big Drop in New York in late August; full shipping to wider channels is targeted for a fall-holiday delivery.
