Haider Ackermann - Designer, Creative Director of Canada Goose & Tom Ford

In the subreddit for my cold as hell Canadian city, people were arguing about Canada Goose (if it's that good, etc.) yet not a soul mentioned Haider as the creative director. 😔
he is even not so well known in fashion if we are objective, i think the brands clientele is not into the creative leadership of the brand , it's like the north face nike or levis etc where you only know the brand

okay but what was the consensus and what are your thoughts? (I have a respiratory infection and we're at -7 and I wonder if I'll have a Dostoievskian death for wearing Uniqlo and not the best of the best of the duvet coat world).

I expected the collection to be lifestyle. He really went for the performance aspect. Quite surprising.
I though it would be more Moncler Genius than Moncler Grenoble.
I’m not mad at the approach.

Even the VIC’s of brands don’t know who the creative director is of brands where they’re spending hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.

If he manages to raise the profile of Tom Ford, realistically, many of the actual buyers will not care to know Haider, they will just know that the product is different, elevated and there’s a new designer at the brand lol .

I know that nobody knows, but it made me laugh! I wasn't legitimately shaming people for not knowing, lol, why would they?

This isn't a pretty answer, but... the concensus was that Canada Goose isn't what it used to be and you're better off buying a parka from The North Face, Helly Hansen, Fjällräven (I forgot that they don't only sell backpacks lol), or... I can't believe I'm speaking this name on tFS: Eddie Bauer. Which makes the parka I have and to be honest I have zero complaints about it. It's warm enough for me on days where we are below -20C (right now it's -17C and it kept me toasty during my errands). The real advice though: use base layers. Which I don't do because I'm not wearing a parka for sporty reasons.

100% agree.
And tbh, a lot of people would be surprised to know that a lot of people don’t know that Tom Ford makes clothes, let alone bags. Except for a few times and at some brands events with clients,
I have friends that aren’t into fashion who knows about the eyewear and the perfumes.

It’s a brand that has a wide appeal but actually a niche reach. That’s why for example the compromises Tom did (the logo underwear or silk sets) didn’t hurt the brand.

I actually think that a good tenure from Haider can only expand the reach of the brand because there’s a frame actually.

No judgement on Eddie or Hansen cause.. I don't think I've ever heard of them! 🥲 but they look like regular, minus 0 degree type of jackets, not really that different from Uniqlo (though in quality they might be?), which is probably what makes me a little curious about Canada Goose. Minus the fugly sleeve logo, some designs look a bit sleeker and not just practical. You kind of live in these jackets for months at a time so I (not being wired to extreme cold maybe) need to feel more alive, without sacrificing warmth of course.

-17 is insane.. I know it's not Yakutia but when I see videos about the way people do regular things there (like oh yeah leaving my car on all night long otherwise I won't be able to use it in the morning), it's like.. why...

LOL I don't know anyone who does that (sounds so dangerous) put people have little special block heaters in their cars here that warm up the engine when it's plugged in. It's pretty common to do on crazy days like that when you're parked outside for a long time.

In the winter I just give up on *wearing* any outerwear that's sleek~ but the strange thing is, I get so comfortable wearing my parka that I find it hard to take it off once spring comes. I wonder why I feel like I'm getting a fever while wearing a parka made to tolerate up to -25C when the heat is on in my car AND it's 10C + sunny outside. 🥵

of course you guys have that, don't ask me why I associate extreme cold with financial hardship lmao, I'm self-projecting 😂 (I know it's kind of the opposite!), I'm here like oh yeah gotta leave that 1998 green corolla on all night long to go work in the nuclear plant at 4 am *needs to stop watching videos about Yakutia*

^^
It seems like.
Are the pants tucked into the boots in the back?
It creates such a weird effect….

So I guess Tilda, if she doesn’t wear Chanel, will be the first woman in Tom Ford by Haider.

She looks good everytime for me. She is one of my fashion icon.
But I meant that she could wear Tom Ford at the Oscars. I guess she will wear Chanel at the Baftas.
Yeah same here...
We only have to wait...i will think Tom Ford to the Baftas or SAG wards
Chanel for the Oscars
but again anything could happen...lol

It looks like Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane?
You think so? To me, it looks like a Tom Ford suit with a different lapel and a less accentuated waist.

Tom Ford is usually very slick and this doesn’t look « slick though ».

But in a way, this kind of respond to what I was guessing the future of Tom Ford menswear may be. The existing silhouettes will not change and Haider’s suits will be just another added silhouette into the mix. I expect a more drastic change in womenswear though.

Yes absolutely. Very Dior Homme / Celine Homme. Hedi did that iridescent fabric slim suit many, many times both with a notch and peak label for Dior Homme and Celine. The silk scarf and white shirt also reminds me a lot of the Celine SS 20 Menswear collection. The vibe.

I don't see Tom Ford in this look at all. A skinny suit is the antithesis of Tom Ford Menswear to me. It's very much a Hedi Slimane trope.

Ok interesting.
They have been doing skinny suits at Tom Ford for a decade now and I have always seen Timothée in Tom Ford skinny suits.

Yes, maybe it’s the styling and lack of slickness. Or those particular boots that gives a more rock look.
