Health Food Beginner

If you want to keep track of what you're eating www.fitday.com is good - plus it's free.

I have been eating bad food at odd times the past couple of weeks and my body is not very happy with me, I feel like crap!

Thanks for the site! I've always been bugging myself to keep track of what I eat but I feel it's a hassle to write it down.

And I hear ya about feeling like crap! I've been eating the worst foods but I guess it's because I'm on my period.

I use to be a big diet coke addict, like 30 cans in few days  No joke. feeling less bloated :judge::shock::ninja:

you feel bloated if you drink soda because of the carbonate.

*i personally don't like diet sodas. i think it's worst than regular soda

I totally agree. I rarely drink soda, and if I do, I never reach for a diet soda. All they are is chemicals... and I don't want to put that in my body!

Taste-wise or nutrition-wise? I've only had diet soda my entire life, so personally I prefer that to regular soda.

For one, it's rather a misconception of the word "diet soda". Drinking too much because it's better than soda is worst, if not just as worst. IMO. Just read what Web MD have to say...

Diet Soda: No Diet
Your daily dose of health information selected by WebMD physician editors.

If you want to cut calories, it seems like a good idea to stop drinking sugary soft drinks. But merely switching to diet soda isn't likely enough.
A recent study finds that people who drink diet soda tend to gain weight, not lose it. In fact, a person's risk of being overweight goes up 41% for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person drinks each day.

Of course, the study didn't show that diet soda causes weight gain. But it does show that what's on your plate is just as important as what's in your glass, says University of Pittsburgh nutritionist Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD.
"You can't go into a fast-food restaurant and say, 'Oh, it's OK because I had diet soda,'" Bonci tells WebMD. "If you don't do anything else but switch to a diet soft drink, you are not going to lose weight."

Do they still put saccharine (sp?) in diet sodas?

*because that's not good for you.

I think it is usually aspartame and/or acsulfame-potassium (?? or something like that)

Sucralose (Splenda) is becoming really popular in all sugar-free foods, I've noticed. I'm sure it's not super good for you but I've heard that it's better than aspartame?

A guy I went to school with cut out fizzy drinks & chocolate and has lost like 30lbs! It's insane!

Can anyone recommend some healthy cookbooks, or even good healthy recipes online? Preferably no meat? Thanks

when it comes to carbs what is healthiest? i mean, is white rice that bad for you, would it be worth it to switch to brown rice? also bread.. multigrain or rye are both good for you right? haha.. i do love my carbs.
Have you ever tried millet? It's full of vitamins and minerals, it has relatively much protein and it's DELICIOUS.
Savoury and rather strong, so you should rather not pair it with delicate flavours (fish etc), but it works fantastic for example in combination with roastbeef, a red wine sauce and brussels sprouts. That's one of my favourite meals actually.
If you like the combination salty-sweet try it with juicy fruits (NECTARINES! tinned figs and lychees also work but those are not healthy I guess) and nuts (cashews or pistachios).
Millet is great stuff, really.

next week i'm having an all fruit week ^_^ only fruit (and vegetables of course). haha i'm kinda excited =p

that's good youre practicing the proper way of eating. but as always everything in moderation. not all fruits are 100% good , either. some have more unwanted sugar and it's not good. and some veggies may have way too much starch too and that's definitely not good.

just remember to read contents of nutrients for each veggies and fruits and yo're good to go. and for women we need fiber too. if you're a teenager not so much because you're still maturing. just cut down trans fat and bad carbs.

Huh, are you serious, smartarse? She says that she wants to eat NOTHING BUT fruit and veggies and considering that those consist of, apart from the evil evil sugar and starch you mentioned, water only she will a) not have to mind about said evil-ness (explain that, what's evil exactly) and b) probably be deficient in nutrition soon and feel bloated and acidic. Not the proper way of eating at all I think.

geez, it's 1 week :S it's a fun experiment :S i would never eat like this longer than 1 week.

why so shocked? vegetarians eat this way. not that i am one.

... and i said:

and i did point out:

Vegetarians eat everything but meat / seafood. That included a lot more than cellulose.
And what bad does starch do? I get sugar -> holey teeth, but sweet little potatoes?

potato is a starch. too much of it is not good. so take in moderation.
corn is starchy. it's alright. but i personally try to stay away from it. but if i do eat , perhaps only a tablespoonful of it. that's it.

*carrots is sugar. it's very healthy but take it in moderation.
