Health Food Beginner

But I'm still interested in what exactly corn will do to you in larger quantities.

next week i'm having an all fruit week ^_^ only fruit (and vegetables of course). haha i'm kinda excited =p

I think you should consider at least adding nuts if this is all you plan on eating for a week. I once saw an experiment where they put some people on a raw foods diet for a week (and they included nuts). But these people had to eat like 10 pounds of raw foods a day to get enough calories. So make sure you are eating enough!!:flower:

There is no perfect fruit or veggie. Each one contains different things that your body needs, so it's important to eat a variety of them. :flower:

I agree. And eating a variety of colors is a good idea to get different antioxidants that the different color fruits and vegetables have, even though the darker ones are even better for more nutrients.

^ That's true. Eat fruit and veggies with darker color! For example, iceberg lettuce is basically useless. Eat the darker lettuces! :)

what are the best fruits and the best vegies?

They are all the best!

It really depends on the individual which fruit/veg. is better than the other. Generally, the ones that are dark or rich in colors are more nutritions.

potato is a starch. too much of it is not good. so take in moderation.
corn is starchy. it's alright. but i personally try to stay away from it. but if i do eat , perhaps only a tablespoonful of it. that's it.

*carrots is sugar. it's very healthy but take it in moderation.

A tbsp of corn? What's the point then?

The only advice I have to give is just eat everything in moderation. Then you don't have to worry about what you are/aren't eating.

Here are some tips:

Eat lots of vegis. Have them with dinner, for lunch try to put lots on a sandwhich (get one of those salad mixes with all the vegis and put it in place of just lettuce.) and breakfast try to mix vegis into your eggs.
And fruit: poms, bananas, apple juice, grapes, cherries.

Eat nuts that are non roasted, roasting ruins them. And keep them in the fridge, esp. almonds.

Use good oils.

Get rid of hydrogenated and high fructose.

Fish: Load up on Salmon! And try the kind from Ikea it's cheap and good. The fat is good for you skin and hair. I sometimes buy it fresh but most of the time, Sam's club has a huge frozen pack and it's great.

Get vitamin d!!

Protein, protein, protein!

Eating lots of good fats. Drinking more than 8 glasses a day of water.

Limit corn product intake. (It just sits in the stomach and it is why it (well, you know.)

All natural (smuckers is good) peanut butter.

Not drinking cafeine or sugary drinks, at all. Limiting chocolate and sweet intake.

And to past post:
Do not just eat fruit and vegis, you need to take in protein from either meat or some other source. Too much sugar will also make you too tired.

The only thing I've heard about high fructose corn syrup is that is makes you crave that and other foods, so you'll eat more. (I heard about one mom that avoided it as much as possible. I don't know it turned out, but it's fairly difficult to avoid fructose corn syrup entirely.)

Actually, corn cannot be digestd because it requires a specific enzyme in the stomach to break it down. Since the stomach does not naturally have that enzyme, it's the reason corn comes out the same way it went in.

Very true. Many male friends of mine eat protein and carbs all day long thinking that can bulk up that way. Vitamins and minerals all work with one another to make the body healthy. Many times, a specific vitamin cannot do its job properly without the assistance of another chemical to react with in the body. A variety of foods will give you the healthy body of your dreams.

And yes, it is ok to have ice-cream and cake and cookies and sweets.
It's ok to have one chocolate, not 12.

No food is off limits, but moderation is KEY!

I actually cut it out and it works =). (Well, for some time lol I'm going back on my healthy diet.)
Here are some tips:
Read labels and not everything has it, you'd be surprised. Shop at the health food store 'Whole Foods' or any local place. Giant food stores also have a huge organic/all natural section.

1. Cut out those not 100% juice drinks and skip the fruit drinks with more sugar added.
2. Water instead of sugar water.
3. Find products that are naturally made and not processed.
4. And also look for labels that say all natural or organic.
5. I'm not really into potatoe chips because they are easy to eat too much of but, if you buy them instead of Doritos, you'll be cutting out processed chemically altered additives.
I'll find some stuff that I eat around the house that doesn't have it, because most of the stuff I eat doesn't have it. And since I'm going back on my health food diet, I'll have a lot more. And beware of the phony triggers, like "healthy" v8 splash juice. It's loaded with more sugar and chemically altered additives.

^ It was said by Dr. Oz on Oprah.

from oprah.com
To maximize the benefits of the healthy oils found in nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts or walnuts, Dr. Oz says they should be eaten raw and stored in the refrigerator. "When you roast a nut, the healthy oils that are in there become damaged," Dr. Oz says. "The oils aren't supposed to be heated and damaged—they're supposed to be taken in their natural form."
