Health Food Beginner

My brother had/has a brain tumor, yet he stills eats like crap. I keep telling my Mom to not let him eat so bad because needs more nutrients and needs to be health conscious, but she really doesn't do much about it. And he's stubborn, so it's hard.

Is that true, though? Or all myth. That cutting out soda and replacing it with say, some kind of juice or even water helps shed the pounds? Or even have some positive effect on your skin. I never, ever drink plain water and always, always drink soda. That probably explains the dry skin.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while but never posted. Up until about 2 weeks ago I was a Diet Dr. Pepper girl...a liter or so a day (which I know is bad)...for about 10 years. I decided to stop and I did, cold turkey. I felt muzzy and cloudy for a few days but, since then, I've felt great and, as someone else mentioned, less bloated.

It could just be in my mind but, even so, I'm not going to complain ^_^

How could cutting out fizzy drinks being good for you, possibly be a myth?! I mean in terms of man, nature and the universe....

If you want to keep track of what you're eating www.fitday.com is good - plus it's free.

I have been eating bad food at odd times the past couple of weeks and my body is not very happy with me, I feel like crap!

Does anyone have nice soup recipes?!

I started to eat more fruit and veggies a week ago and I already feel more energetic and I feel like my skin has improved a little bit...not quite sure.
I eat 300 g of veg. for lunch and 300 g for dinner
Fruit and smoothies for breakfast and snacks

It doesn't mean that I've given up sweets, but there's just less room for them :D

I use to be a big diet coke addict, like 30 cans in few days  No joke. I would need it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and when I felt like it. My mum always told that it makes you put on weight. Well I quit, more like forced to  two months ago also Im in Paris now and the the diet coke taste different in Europe :yuk: so it was a good opportunity to quit but switched to Perrier water instead. My new addiction :shifty: Though real water is my first choice of drink! I dont get how some people never drink water

Point of story - havent lost any weight! If your drinking like Coke full of sugar then I think you will def lose weight if you stop...been eating normally aswell and feeling less bloated but with the amount that I drank anyone would feel bloated  And for the skin I dont know Ive never had perfect skin and I have totally changed seasons here so my skin is better.

Though Im pretty sure the diet coke decayed my teeth rapidly, I needed 6 fillings last year :judge::shock::ninja:

^^lemeray, i too recently gave up all soda. i'm trying to have a more natural diet, getting rid of the toxic chemicals that are in diet soda. so congratulations to you! (and good luck!) since i gave up soda, i haven't craved it at all! i drink water or green tea instead.... yum :)

Are red veggies (tomato, sweet potato, red capsicum, pumpkin) better than green (broccolli, green capsicum)?

I think all vegetables are good you, they all give you different nutrients. Eat both :)

And Im glad I stopped my diet coke addiction :bounce: my teeth felt terrible.

^ lemeray- glad you cut out the Diet Coke too!
Even if it's no cal. those artificial sweetners aren't good for your body to process.

hi, here's another coke light -addict. a few liters a day keeps my mouth closed for other stuff. though :ninja: your discussion reminded me of the cons. Okay by tommorow I will go back to good , old, healthy evian ... just like old times.

quitting is just hard if you're so used to something

another problem ... I smoke too much :ninja: and drink too much coffee :ninja:. all not good for my teeth ... I really hate me for ruining them.
do you guys have any tips? I mean Water, Tea and Chewing gum instead of coke light, coffee and cigarettes...it sounds not difficult, but it is.

i guess its the most effective if you just stick to natural things..water,vegetables and fruit. You have to remind yourself all the time that all this artificial stuff is just like toxic for your body..
tomorrow I´ll start too ;)

My advice is that, there is no such thing as a bad food. The food you enjoy the most is good for you. If the nutritional content is not so ideal, just indulge in moderation once in a while. Eat as natural as you can, and do not beat yourself up if you ate something not nutritionally perfect.

Concerning the capsicum you mention: I hate the green ones, they don't taste at all in my opinion. I love the red and green ones, though.

when it comes to carbs what is healthiest? i mean, is white rice that bad for you, would it be worth it to switch to brown rice? also bread.. multigrain or rye are both good for you right? haha.. i do love my carbs.

Whole grains are better because white bread is processed. Complex carbs are better because they break down more slowly. And I think bread is not actually the best source of complex carbs but to get whole grain it has to be whole wheat. It's not the end of the world if you have white rice sometimes, but brown rice is definitely the healthier choice.

Whole grains are better because they have more fibers and minerals that white flour does not have. White carbs are not bad, just not as good as whole grains; however, white sugar should be consumed in moderation. White rice or bread won't kill you.

Whole grain breads are fantastic! Watch out for multi-grain bread. They could be white bread with molasses for the healthy color; some oats, wheat germs, bran spread on top of it so it is MULTI grain. Your best bet is to read the ingredients list, it must say whole wheat or whole grain flour. White flour is a wheat, but not WHOLE wheat.
