Hedi Slimane - Designer

I love Hedi for Saint Laurent. Although the changes are crazy, not everyone can take it.
I think he kinda capture the pattern of the costumer's behaviour nowadays and did a great job in terms of sales.
Not sure if AV fits Saint Laurent, but i love his stuffs.

It would be the most shocking exit of all the recent ones. I just don't get why he would leave, and most importantly why would they let him go. He brought the house out of irrelevance, did the whole makeover, turned it into a smash hit... to leave a couple years later? And especially how he's Kering's golden boy, the whole thing sounds super bizarre to me.

Slimane is a Diva. I'm almost certain, based on his success, he demanded more in his new contract than Kering is willing to oblige.

Sometimes when you push like that it doesn't always go your way. You can ask Alber.

They took his demands and they said "Ok, we'll just hire someone else. Cheaper. Thanks for everything, the door is to your right."

But agreed, if I were Kering I would just give it to him.

That said, there are rumors he's leaving to do Christian Dior. It will be a coup for Arnault and devastating to Kering.

^^^ Spoiled-rotten diva no, no doubt.

VACCARELLO? Seriously? What a joke!
The same for SIMONS, i don't want him at YSL...

Christophe Decarnin for Saint Laurent, that would be major:stuart:

Yes, yes and OMG— yes! That trashy rockstar look that’s so popular with Vacarello and Balmain is so much richer, fresher and attractive in Decarnin’s hands. But I’m afraid the buzz around Decarnin has passed. And labels are only interested in someone that can generate hype and buzz. That’s why Gaultier and Lacroix would never be even considered for the role at this point in their careers.

I suppose since Hedi is Pinault’s spoilt golden child, he would let him go wherever he wanted.

Apparently, the fashion world have still an interest for Decarnin. I see a lot of Faith Connexion in the magazines and on celebrities. Not to mention, it's better than Balmain by Rousteing.
I love Faith Connexion!

I really don't believe that Pinault will let Hedi go. Pierre Bergé will root for his protégé!

^^^ Decarnin's state of mind may be too fragile to handle the SL label even if he were offered the role.

I think he knows what suits him, and Faith seems to be that small, intimate, insider’s cache that he feels most inspired with. SL could be too intimating for him. As much as you and I would think he’s the ideal visionary for SL, the investors would likely think otherwise if Decarnin's well-being may be affected by such a high-profile role.

Hopefully the rumor about Hedi leaving is true. IMO he's taken YSL as far as he can. As for Vaccarello taking over...I'm not so sure. I always thought that him taking over at Versus was just a prelude to him being Donatella's heir at Versace if and when she leaves.

As much as i don't like what he is doing there (i'm becoming more and more indifferent about it), I don't like the idea of him leaving the brand right now. After all the dramas, all the drastic changes...WHY??

I believe this is false because i can't imagine that Pinault will let go Hedi when he is doing so good.
I'm all for him being in charges of the beauty business (i think that was a mistake from Kering to give it to L'Oreal). YSL Beauté is a mess right now and Hedi created some of the best perfumes of those last 16 years.

Like Creative, my dream would be Nicolas for YSL (and for Chanel) but i remember reading a recent interview of him saying that he is not interested in YSL because it was a "too clean" fashion house. And we all know that he will never work with Kering again.

VACCARELLO? Seriously? What a joke!

Agreeee!!!

Slimane makes a great job, the revenue growth , what's more?
Slimane has too much fans, ( me too. I love what he does. Prices in the Sale time are ok :D)
Beauty make by l'Oreal, no, i don't want but if Hedi will do it than i'll buy it ( and sure millions anothers)

Vaccarello and YSL? No, please, not! He is not fit enough for YSL. It's not enough to design in same "direction" to become a creative director of one brand as YSL.

I don't see Simons there. Can't imagine Simons create YSL smoking.

I hope it's only rumors.

You don't need to be a fan of the current Saint Laurent to think it would be stupid of Mr. Pinault to let Slimane go. Let the guy take control over the image of YSL cosmetics if he so desires - He's proven a good hand making his re-branded Saint Laurent sell, why shouldn't it work just as well with lipsticks and eyeshadow? A big brand like this you cannot entrust to a one trick pony emerging designer like Vaccarello, it demands a level of know-how to micro-management every angle of the business. And that is, undoubtly, a quality that Hedi Slimane perfected like no other.

Wouldn't they have to buy the cosmetics business back in order to give him control? Is there another puzzle piece here I don't know about? I frankly have enjoyed seeing the YSL in every beauty ad--especially now that I know it's been driving him nuts

Agree that he behaved like an unprecedented diva from day one ... perhaps it's worn thin. If there are other things he'd rather being doing, it's OK with me ... :innocent:

I think Hannah MacGibbon could maybe do something interesting for YSL/SL.

If Hedi leaves, will it remain Saint Laurent or return to YSL?

^ It's debatable that she did anything interesting while she was at Chloé, and that's a far easier gig than Saint Laurent.

Hannah would be amazed by the '70s in the archives and it's dangerous in a way so I don't know... how many times you can design p*ssy bows and wide pants? Even if their tailoring was a killer at Chloé.

^ It's debatable that she did anything interesting while she was at Chloé, and that's a far easier gig than Saint Laurent.

Yes, absolutely.

And can she design for men…? Hedi may be a lot of things to those that don’t like his direction for SL, but one can't deny that both his women’s and men’s offerings have been equally strong and compliment one another well, branding and design-wise. That’s not an easy thing to do at all.

^ Hmm ... to me his most successful women's clothes are the menswear tailored ones. Tailored is not my thing so I've never tried them on, but I know he had a lot of female customers at Dior Homme. I think I can deny that his women's clothes are equally strong ... those that aren't tailored seem to be skimpy dresses and the like that betray minimal skill in terms of cutting, draping, pattern-making, originality, etc.

^^^ Oh yeah-- no denying that there are some monstrosities that show up regularly in his women’s offerings LOL But that can be said for almost every designer working.

But as a whole, his design direction for the label, has always been so confident and assured, from the very first showing. The man knows what he wants to offer and sticks by it, for both women and men. Can Hannah do that?

^I think they wouldn't return to YSL, now it's their couture line.

What Will Hedi Slimane Do Next?

At the Paris men's and couture shows, the front rows were buzzing with speculation on Hedi Slimane's rumoured departure from Saint Laurent and what the designer might do next.

LONDON, United Kingdom — In the crucible that is fashion week, with buyers, editors and other industry insiders pressed up against each other at show after show, it's not surprising that rumours can take hold and spread like wildfire. But the past week in Paris, during the men's and haute couture shows, was unlike anything I have seen before. New rumours seemed to pop up everyday, morphing and mutating as the week progressed. Perhaps it's just because the fashion flock is bored and turns to speculation to add a dash of excitement to the proceedings. Sometimes this kind of speculation has a way of becoming full-fledged "confirmation." But, of course, it's difficult to tease out the truth from a rumour mill in overdrive.

Last week, the most extreme and interesting rumours surrounded the mystery of what is going on with Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent. When it came to light, earlier this month, that Slimane might be exiting YSL, after the brand suddenly announced its menswear show would not take in place in Paris as planned, but instead in Los Angeles, where Slimane lives and works, the question on everyone's minds was: what might the designer do next?

Why, people wondered, would Slimane walk away from a brand he has so successfully — if controversially — turned into one of the biggest fashion business success stories of the last few years? Surely, it's because a better offer is now on the table, or so the rumours went. Rumours are rumours. But as they say, where there's smoke, there's fire and it seems there is something indeed going down at Saint Laurent.

According to the speculation circulating on the front rows in Paris, moving up from Saint Laurent means either becoming creative director at Dior — a position which was vacated late last year by Raf Simons — or Chanel, where Karl Lagerfeld has a life-long contract, but just might be starting to think about who might fill his enormous shoes.

The Dior theory is interesting because Slimane has a storied past at Dior Homme, a brand he singlehandedly created and built between 2000 and 2007, leaving, in part, because he wanted to start his own label, doing both men's and women's wear. What's more, before his tenure at Dior Homme, Slimane worked at Yves Saint Laurent, so it wouldn't be the first time he came back to a brand with which he has a history — albeit on the women's side. There were tensions between Slimane and LVMH at the time of his departure, so to believe this rumour, you'd also have to believe that Slimane has patched things up. (There was also another rumour circulating widely that Sarah Burton would take up the reins at Dior, but again, that was only speculation).

Following Karl Lagerfeld's triumph during the haute couture shows, it's hard to imagine anyone else taking the helm of Chanel. But one day, even King Karl will go and the naming of his successor will be the mother of all announcements in a fashion system where Mr. Lagerfeld has reigned as a kind of unimpeachable monarch for several decades now. Who better, some people said, than another of fashion's greatest masters of branding and communication: Hedi Slimane. Lagerfeld, who is widely expected to handpick the next creative director of Chanel, has long been a fan of Slimane and famously shed more than 90 pounds to squeeze into one of Slimane's skinny Dior Homme suits — so there is a mutual respect there.

Of course, none of the aforementioned brands would comment on these rumours, because, for the moment, that's all they are. But it is certainly going to make for an interesting fashion season when the women's shows begin in earnest in New York on February 10th, as some of the big announcements at Dior, Lanvin and perhaps even Saint Laurent are made.

Hedi at Chanel? LOL

so i also get Lanvin and Dior are expected to announce their new creative directors soon?
