Hedi Slimane leaves Dior Homme

Oh my! That would be quite awful and quite brilliant at the same time. I mean,Pilati is doing a great job(and no,YSL HAS NOT slipped into obscurity at all)and Slimane of course is a cult.

Could be true, actually. Diane has relayed alot of rumours before which all turned out very true. But just like she expressed before even mentioning it...."neither confirmed nor a fact". So at this moment, only a rumour.

Another point of view is that Hedi has a young/androgenous style which doesn't really suit YSL. The YSL man/woman is mature, grown-up... Subtle and sophisticated, not sharp-

wow if its true , its seem YSL changes its designers like diapers. but i dont think this is true because the house would lose credibility then.

Was the collection a calling card, a bid by Mr. Slimane to return to Yves Saint Laurent, where he designed men's wear before the house was sold to Gucci and where Stefano Pilati is now in charge? Judging from the couture-fit of the tuxedos, the superelongated line of trench coats and the floppy bow ties at the throats of the androgynous models, all elements in Mr. Saint Laurent's repertory, you might think so.

Mr. Slimane, who is eager to do women's clothes, said the melancholia of the show reflected only his general mood, not a deeper unhappiness. His boss, Sidney Toledano, the chief executive of Dior, said Mr. Slimane wasn't leaving. "No way," Mr. Toledano said.

I couldn't agree more. YSL seems to have slipped into obscurity after Ford's departure...:ninja:
Slipped into obscurity? Are you serious? Just because it isn't totally tarted up and sexed out doesn't mean it's slipped into obscurity. Quite the contrary. I think sales of Pilati's YSL have far surpassed Ford's YSL. The campaigns are huge successes, the clothes are flying off the shelves, they just sponsored the Guggenheim Young Collector's event and every celeb and socialite was dripping in YSL. The brand is "cool" again.

I honestly couldn't imagine womenswear by Hedi. I think it would be far too mannish and constricting and cold and unsexy. Yves had a respect for and understanding of women that I don't think Hedi does right now.

I totally agree. IN addition, YSL is YSL, not YSL by HS. DH and YSL have totally different brand images. One is HS's cult, and the other is years of history, sophistication, and deep understanding of WOMEN. Pilati is perfect for YSL.

i don't think we should judge what HS woemenswear will be like, before we actually see it. He's not such a predictable persona. He just might be the next YSL himself(as a status). might.:alien:

Hum ... I dunno how to react to this ... i rather wait until its confirmed

OMG I hope that this doesnt happen! But u know Gucci Group...it just might be true..

I agree, but based on what we've seen from Hedi in following him for 6 or 7 years now, I think it's fair to make an informed guess about what it would look like.

of course!, because hedi is working with the male form now right?, i will like to see hedi´s take on womens wear and specially at Ysl, he´s sophisitcated and appeal to women even when he´s designing man clothes, he´s last collection had beads and fox fur wich i haven´t seen before on his Dior shows, he used to work successfully at Ysl man so he understand what its all about, this whole thing sounds like a very interesting deal to me and Pilati could start his own label now because he has already gain the international recognition and respect from the press

I say if it's not broken, why fix it? Pilati is so perfect at YSL! He's got this very "cool" sophistication to his clothes. As much as I loved Tom Ford, I must say Pilati is a much better fit and he should be left there. ^_^

I'd actually like to see what Hedi would do at YSL, especially with the womenswear...he could give YSL an edgier feel, although that is kind of going against the classic philosophy and history of the label. His work for YSL menswear is excellent though, I think it could work very well...Pilati staying under Gucci Group with his own label would work well. Regardless, Hedi will most likely go down in history as one of the greats and I think moving to YSL would be a PERFECT transition for him at this point in his career, after so many years of delivering his youthful idealism at Dior.

i dont know from whence this rumour came...... it is probably one of the dumbest this i have heard in a while and even though strange things have happened in the fashion industry i can say i am certain this wont happen.
when Slimane started a YSL in was owned by its founding designer and Pierre Berge the company had no menswear identity so Heidi could have done pretty much whatever he wanted to do, when Gucci bought the company and he left (because he did not want to work for Tom Ford) Mr Arnault say an exellent opportunity as Dior Homme had no menswear identity either.
With the womenswear it is absolutely a different situation, i can tell you that the owners of YSL would never hand it womenswear to a designer who is untested in that area of fashion
YSL ther brand is one of the most iconic and legendary names in fashion (only probably Chanel has more reverence as a fashion brand) the founding designer is still alive and has great influence over the house, as far as i know it is said that he is happy with the way Pilati is working and i can promise you they would never turn over design responibilities to a designer that is untested in that area, not for such a house whose image is so feminine and elegant.
some people might look at the Raf/JIL sander marriage as an example but that is completely different as jil sanders work was always very minimal and androgynous with the bulk of the collection being seperates.

from what i think.

dior homme calls "young , inspirations"
the name YSL calls "blue - blood" and royal, rich traditions.

i just thought the old people at YSL wouldnt change the brand's image completely.

or

go ahead and call back hedi but limit his freedom.

plus pilati is doing a good job.

... i think i saw a post here at TFS that hedi has renewed his contract?

rumors?

what's up rossie, i've seen you around the forum.

Hmm was it Christmas 2005? If it was before that then it wasn't me because I wasn't around for Xmas in HK since like 2001.

wait wait, didn't dhclam already refer to his "insider's info" that debunked the rumor of hedi leaving the house of Dior? I remember him saying that Hedi extended his contract with Dior not too long ago. If dhclam were true, then this rumor of him leaving is already dead.

Personally, I do not believe that the Gucci group would make such a drastic decision to shaft Pilati and opt yet again for Hedi, not when Pilati has already established a signiture aesthetic for YSL... though one cannot be sure, John Ray and that horrible lady for Gucci womenswear who didn't even last two seasons are already out. Nonetheless, I highly doubt it's going to happen. I'll take dhclam's "insider information" for now. As it seems to be the only substantial info. being thrown around here at the moment.
