yah- one of my faves too...
i think most people who like helmut really dug this collection...
it seemed that everywhere you turned that season all the 'cool' downtown artsy creative types in NYC were wearing a piece of this collection...
some wore the jeans and some the coats w/the stripes and then there were the T's with the shoulder and elbow slashes...
* daryl K also exploded right about then...and so everyone was wearing something from each of them to be cool...that was what all the rock n roll style folks were doing at that moment...
i actually saw daryl K on the street today...and she still looks so f*cking cool...she just IS cool...you cannot buy that kind of cool by buying the clothes...you have to have it already...i think that was the secret of helmut lang as well...
the people buying the stuff made it even cooler because they were already cool and he just tapped into what they all were looking for and wanted to wear because he is cool himself...and of course melanie ward helped!...she is SUPER COOL!...
i am a huge fan of hers...
runner- you know that rick owens t-shirt...the one with the cut out neck...?
i think that it reminded me of this collection and that is why i thought it would be good for you in your vast helmut lang wardrobe...seemed like it would blend in nicely....
thought the rick owens version is less 'stiff' than the helmut lang version imo..it's a bit drapier...no?

softgrey, that reminded me helmut lang jeans used to have a corner store next to daryl k's corner in a department store Seibu over here!
in the mid 90's it seemed as if lang had been a bit like a star.
he made ad campaign appearances and his face was featured there.
but it might be ward's restraint that didn't allow him to sink into all the mere glamorization of designers. (though she looked cooler for sure in the later ad)
anyway she seemed to help greatly.
somewhere I saw a pic of two backstage hands of lang and ward pushing models together from behind to launch them on the runway.
yes the rick version feels drapier.
I'll definitely wear it with something from this collection.

It's pretty funny to me how people talk of short(er) suits, miltary flourishes, 'oversized/square' jackets and etc being the new 'casual' thing when Helmut did it all 10+ years earlier, and better. Dude must have been from the future because out of the 200+ looks in this thread... Maybe four look dated. Genius; single-handedly defines contemporary fashion.
