Help With What to Wear to a Costume or Themed Party

m.j. I moved your post here.. I think there is a larger fancy dress thread.. but I couldn't find it.. maybe a Personal Style mod can remember the name..

Anyways.. you want to express the opposite of yourself.. if you want helpful feedback I think you should list the following:

Your style
Your style icons
Your favorite accessories
Your favorite items
Your personality traits..

If others know them maybe they can help you figure out what your exact opposite is like..

Hanne - thank you
i guess i will have to go through the threads with the 70's style icons... though i feel like wearing all black...

lol If you like black.. go with white..
Do you like or dislike the 70s ??

i like and dislike 70's. a whole lot of great things happened and i find that era v. exciting, but if there is so much going on, you have to have a lots that you aren't happy about...

Dita Von Teese wore a great 'alter ego' costume for Halloween.

“For Halloween, I’m going to look like a normal girl, put some bronzer on, some spray tan on and wear some jeans. People will ask me where my costume is!” “I would never do this in normal life, that’s why I’ll do it at Halloween.

Here it is ... btw, here in Personal Style we have many threads that begin "What to wear ...", so if you're looking for something in that category, that's a good search ;)

PS I think my alter ego would be a sorority girl or a Stepford wife ;)

I think something Grey Gardens/Little Edie would be shabby chic ... I would think you'd want something vintage or vintagey.

PS I'd suggest merging this with the theme party thread in Personal Style ... I've just bumped it for someone else.

Red nose day fancy dress

Anyone dressing up for red nose day in the uk? I'm supposed to be dressing up as a cowgirl... unoriginal i know but not my idea lol. actually, ive never fancy dressed as a cowgirl before. Anyways,
I dont have much time or money to get an outfit together though.

I was thinking of wearing a white vest top with a plaid shirt on top (or just plaid shirt) but I dont know what else to wear on my bottom half. Denim shorts??

I can buy a cheap hat and gun thing so thats ok.

But what should I wear on my feet cos I dont have any boots and I really don't want to buy some just for that night. What kind of flat shoes could i wear? I have plenty of flats to choose from.

Any ideas or variations on the theme would be greatly appreciated :) thankyoou

Denim shorts yeah, or jeans if its colder? Have you any brown flats? I dunno brown just feels more country.Me and my friends once went out as mexicans it was abit more intersting than all the cowboys and cowgirls.

Perhaps you could explain the holiday for those unfamiliar with it ... it is a holiday?

Ooookay. I have a Bond themed dinner party coming up in around 3 weeks time. Which should be an easy thing to dress for. Alas,it is proving harder than I thought. I had bought a Julian McDonald dress which was perfect, though I had to take it back due to hideous sizing issues :(

I've decided not to dress as a Bond Girl cos it's a little too tricky. So I'm going as myself as a Bond Girl  But do I go with a long dress,or go short? I asked 2 girls who are also going what they're wearing and one seems to be wearing a prom dress, the other isn't too sure (Then again I don't know how much I want the advice of these girls :p) So all advice my darlings is welcome :flower:

^ I would think short, but I am not the world's foremost Bond expert :p Seems like some stills from the movies would help ...

I found a short red bandeau dress on my lunch break today that I think might be a winner ^_^ It doesn't scream Bond Girl per se but it has enough scope for me to jazz it up :D

Hmmm.. I am going to a 2019 birthday party on Saturday.. as in where do you see yourself in ten years time! and honestly I have no idea!! Any wacky ideas.. I think going wacky is better than going as the more realistic!:p

^ You could go as June Cleaver :D A cat lady ... A 4-star general (or whatever you have there ^_^)...

I'm going to a party these weekend with the theme "Spring Bacchanalia, Mythical Being, Mayan/Aztec, Sacrificial Lamb, Feathered Reptile & Body Art". I would have loved to think of something crazy but too busy this week. I'm trimming an herve leger dress with peacock feathers around the bottom and the bust and wearing giant peacock lashes. Should be intresting to see what other people come up with!
