What about the Northern Chinese? I like to research countries, and from what I've learned, not all of the Eastern Asian continent are tiny. I happen to know for a fact that many NC are quite tall. In fact, some of the tallest men in the world have been from North China. I don't see why there wouldn't be a market for modeling/fashion in mainland China either, I'm sure they could find models 5'9+ easily. And of course they could export them to Hong Kong to do the shoots, if that's where the work is.........

So not getting my point here... yes northern chinese women are tall, but the standards in HK is shorter/cute and usually eurasian girls. I have a friend who tried out in HK for a model casting for some 2nd rate runway show (its done at some hotel) and she was rejected because she's too "tall" but she's only like 5,7.5... I find that so funny

another thing is, people in HK has a slight tendency to look down at people in china... since they think the mainland people aren't as cosmopolitian as they r n fashion forward. so importing northern china woman will b rare but importing eurasians or malaysian or korean or japanese or singaporean... is actually more common

I didn't get from your first post that the requirement/standards for HK models WERE to be short, only that you said HK models tend to be short. I thought tall models was ideal pretty much everywhere in the fashion world, because the clothes hang better on them but obviously I thought wrong.

No no no no... like the "trend" is to haf short models... short n cute... u no how internationally we have models who are 16 but look like 20... in HK they want girls who are in their 20s but look 15... Like these girls. Charlene Choi... and Gillian Chung... both model turned singer/actress.. they r in this group called "twins" but they are actually not twins of course...Gillian (right hand side) actually won some modeling contest n that was how she got in the business... both girls are 5,3 and 5,4

Oh n follow up on my 5,7.5 friend story.. turns out she is 5,8 and she went to the casting of "stareast" models in HK... she was recruited by some agent person on the streets on HK but was rejected with her height being the reason...

i think often asians mix the model industry with the entertainment industry. For example, Twins are really not models but actresses. In Taiwan, it is very popular the girls modeling for shows and editorials, but not so popular for the runway. Lin Chiling is known as one super model because she has done several runway shows such as Chanel, etc.

just to clarify some of the height issue in HK, anyway i'm 5'4 1/2 (i find myself small) and a lot of my relatives in HK find me tall already. whenever i go back to HK and visit them, my cousins would just rave on how i should try modeling in hongkong. so there! that's just my opinion based on my experience though

Man they all look the same to me.

All the girls are 'cute'. UgH. They're ten a penny. I have never yet seen a classical asian beauty.

Tiffany is absolutely stunning, such elegance
I love Hong Kong models, so pretty & mesmerizing !
Keep posting pics people :flower:

I am Chinese too, and I think alot fo HK models do purvey that "cutesy" look. It's so catalogue-ish. To me, a Super Model is someone who is a chameleon in her pictures, where she can transform her emotions and body in front of the camera. Alot of the pictures here are very one-look types. Cute.

My favourite "Asian" model is...well, she's 1/2 American and the rest (I think) are German & English.
