Hong Kong models

those HK models are sooooooooooooo boring-looking. not to mention that majority of them are not born in hong kong and are not 100% Chinese:ninja::ninja:

i couldn't have agreed more.
i just hate how hk people find the so called "cute" look pretty. they are so fake, it just isn't natural:angry:

i think the whole thing about 'cute, wide-eyed models' in asia being the 'most successful' kind of boring. i guess its because asians dont think of their own oriental features as beautiful :(

I think it also goes across every culture, race, ethnicity, nationality, etc...

:(

i think the problem is the stereotype of model pf being like a non-professional work in hong kong, they are often seen as stepping stone to being a celeb and their image is oftern restricted.

i wont comment about the whole "asian dont think their oriental feature is beautiful" kinda thing because i dont have a typical asian face and there is a long link of consipracy underneath,
but does anyone really think the hong kong model we have right now can sastify our needs?

psshhttt...
it happens all over the Asian continent,
specifically in SEAsia [if i'm not mistaken]
They become game show hosts,
or hosts of some TV show...etc...

then they endorse juice drinks and all those commercial stuff...

I was in shock when I saw this thread!I don't think there are many "real" models in HK,just a few of them dominate the industry.(eg:Lisa S,Lyn,Rose Mary etc.)
And all famous models in HK are too old, average 24.While the younger ones are not presentable.
MOST HongKongers just think models with big eyes, tall nose, pale skin are beautiful.
And almost every teenage girls on the street claims they are part-time models.Come on!do they even know what models are?

You weren't the only one:flower:

Somehow, that is very collapsable,in line with your statement that the young ones aren't presentable.
Some of them do not have the commitment...

MOST HongKongers just think models with big eyes, tall nose, pale skin are beautiful.

I wonder why their perception of beauty is like that.
Someone needs to break that mentality:ninja:
And actually, that's what the media is portraying [not local media, mind you]

And almost every teenage girls on the street claims they are part-time models.Come on!do they even know what models are?

"Model"-the noun,
is now such a loose term nowadays..:(
and the television has adulterrated it also in a way:ninja:

I think sometimes most "young" Hongkies still look quite young and we are born to look cute sometimes because we are shorter and some people just translate short = cute! I am 22 and sometimes people tell me I look younger than my 15 year old sister. :innocent: OMG! :ninja:   [I secretly like that comment! :P  ]

...and I guess designers don't really want a silly cute looking girl selling clothes, because if they don't do it well, it could all go to disaster and the clothes could look stupid AND cheap! :yuk: That reminds me of Karl Lagerfeld's comment on one of his collections: "It's not like a stupid little girl dancing around in a white skirt!" Designers opt for sophistication and that is often the factor that makes their clothes rich!

MOST HongKongers just think models with big eyes, tall nose, pale skin are beautiful.
Yes, you are right! I secretly worship that, too! As you can see, I  Masha Tyelna! But I think that's only because fashion is so westernised nowadays. If we are still wearing Chinese robes like in the old dynasty, I bet our Asian beauties will rule the runway! :D

I like DuJuan, she is so different from Hong Kong models.Actually I personally like Shanghai models because they have that kind of classic oriental beauty. But HK models are westernized and they lost their uniqueness.I think being too commercial is what makes HK models look relatively cheap.
I hope one day HK will have models like Du,and go international.:flower:

^ People in mainland China are a lot taller than Hong Kong people.
It's a lot easier to find tall women there than here.

i don't think "HongKie(s)" is the right term to use.
It's quite rude and a bit derogatory.
I agree with ro_na912 :D

Ummm... Amongst ABC, the use of the word "Hongkie" is perfectly normal.

Really?

It's very strange, because amongst my circle of friends, everyone is ok with it!

For example:
American - Yankie
Russians - Russky
Polish - Polski
Australians - Aussie

So why not?

Hong Kong people - Hongkie

Plus Hong Kong people is far too long to say, so we use hongkie all the time and we often use it in the following sense:

A says: "Is your new boyfriend Aussie?"
B replies: "No, Hongkie! Of course, Hongkie! :mohawk: "

I hope I don't sound too silly!

no,
you don't sound silly,
but thank you for taking the time to explain to me the way you and your friends use it:P

I find that last piece of dialogue quite hilarious:lol:
xie xie ni
