How do you organize your closet?

My house was built in 1927 and all the closets are small. My primary closet is my hall closet, which I recently had painted and better finished inside (definite improvement). The previous owners of my house installed double rods in all the other closets, and the high rods are too high for me to reach. I need to have them redone ... I want to have most of them lined in raw cedar, but I've got other higher priority projects

On the shelf in the hall closet I keep the bags I'm not carrying right now, lavender sachets, and other stuff like A/C filters and vacuum bags and cloth napkins folded in tissue paper On the floor are a rug and chair my dog has chewed, and my off-season shoes are stowed on the floor at the back.

On the horizontal rod are current season tops and dresses, and on the perpendicular one, current season bottoms. In reality, also in there are anything that came back from the cleaners, including curtains, tablecloths, and whatnot.

I have an off-season closet in my storage room.

In my bedroom (and I just organized this over my Christmas vacation) I have current season shoes in large clear storage boxes (I buy the men's size so my short boots will fit too and if the heels aren't too high the shoes can stand up), and on top I have 3 canvas drawers with my socks, underwear, and hose. I have a chest of drawers, but I use it to store my wrapping paper, tissue paper, and ribbon

I also have a double hook over the closet door in my bedroom, a single hook on the outside of the bathroom door, and a triple hook inside the bathroom door. Clothes have been known to hang in these locations

Nothing is ever thrown on the floor. I have a big bed ... sometimes clothes can be found there.

i took my two closet doors out and put a big red couch from ikea in my closet so i have to fold everything now...or throw it into a big ball and stuuf it in my drawers

What are the best ways to store your clothes, shoes and accessories? I know you are not supposed to use metallic hangers or plastic shoeboxes. Which clothes should be folded and which on hangers? What are the best ways to store your clothing so it will last?

fash ho, the Ikea mirror is brilliant.!

I've found that the metal bars are the best way to keep my accessories organized. It's probably the only smart thing I have.

My closet consist of 3 small closets next to each other. dresses, blouses, some of my shirts and some shoes are in one of them. in the next there are jeans, pants, t's, sweaters, shorts, a few skirts and belts. And in the last one there are ribbons, vests, l/s t's and jackets. The scarfs I use the most are thrown over the closet door.

it´s not even space for my shoes and bras......so I have to store them elsewere! I would die for Carrie´s Closet from Sex and the City..I LOVE it! It´s small but fabulous!

Gosh all your wardrobes are so organised! I have 2 wardrobes - one free standing which I've had for basically my entire childhood, and a built in one with a 'rail' section and big shelf section. I keep folded tshirts on the shelf but I can never be bothered to fold them so I just throw them in there And then hanging areas in both wardrobes for dresses and trousers, and I keep my shoes inside on the floor. I also have 2 plastic containers for underwear/socks/etc but they always overflow into the rest of the wardrobe shelves. Accessories go in my little chest of drawers, and bags I use often I hang behind my door, and dressing gown etc. Jeans are folded on shelf above the 'rail' area. I used to be able to pile them up but now I have to squash them all in because its always overflowing nowadays

OMG
im looking back at my pics and gosh things have slightly changed. i have a great closet thats tiny but cost me an f*ing fortune. its not even done yet (mirror and paint missing on ceiling) but its a constant mess. the fact that i paid this guy too much and its a mess makes me sooooo angry!
i think its due to its size and mainly because i am travelling way too much.
i have actually asked around for a specific "cleaner" who would only come in twice a weak to organise the closet. fold, etc and i still havent found anyone capable..
right now i can say that this is a big issue causing stress in my life. i hate being disorganised.
but since this topic is bumped i am hoping it will encourage me to tidy it up again and post !

in the meantime, post away everyone

The title of this thread implies my closet is organized, which it is not. I suppose you could describe it as an "organized mess," but my parents and I generally refer to it as just "a mess."

I don't really know where to start, in terms of pointing things out. My closet sort of occupies my entire room; the items on the left are all pieces that I wear on a daily basis but have yet to hang up. In my actual closet, you can see heavy coats on the left; Disneyland memorabilia in the center; pajamas on the floor; and more Disneyland memorabilia on the bottom left.

was bursting at the seams until i took a lot of stuff and put it in my sister's vacant closet..
though it's still pretty full
