How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

high heels are actually counter productive to proper balance. so it's important to be aware of your posture...shoulders back, spine straight and not slouching. if you relax your hips they will come underneath and make walking easier. and yes, a wider heel def helps.

What about stairs?

Tell us how you tackle stairways, going up and coming down.

I limit my use of very high heels (very 4inches) to dinners and minimal walking events. Unless they have a huge platform but still I won't shop in heel. To uncomfortable and that would put me off the shopping.

stairs are very tricky, but i've been taught well by my sisters and so have the courage to tackle them every once in a while :D

when going down stairs i always grab hold of the rail, and land with my sole on the step, keeping the heel raised a little above the step. If i'm feeling particularly scared i angle my body towards the rail and turn my foot towards the rail, planting my whole foot, heel and toe, onto the step at the same time.

When going up i land firmly on the whole shoe; heel and toe, in the middle (or as close as) of the stair. If i feel a little wobbly then i grab hold of the rail, or the obliging arm of a dashing man near me.

so that's stairs for me. not my greatest friend, but not an enemy. I have more trouble on marble floors and cobblestone/un paved sidewalks.. they can be very tricky!
:flower:

I'd really like to buy insoles for my 4" pumps. Does anyone know where I can get good insoles that will fit into high heels? What should I look for when buying insoles (certain type of material?) Thank you!!

Check local drug stores. In the U.S., some of the Walgreens and other stores carry a line from Dr. Scholl's tapered for heels and pumps.

I have a pair of 15cm heels from H&M (!) and I danced in them for 12hrs, no blisters, no pain.
Today I wore a pair of leather lace up heels (7cm) and after 2hrs I couldn't walk anymore, blisters everywhere.
I don't know why, it's weird.

I don+t know the answer to your question but besides the obvious (like construction/quality/shape of the shoe) i have read that if you moisturize your feet and then put some shoes on imediately after you can get lots of blisters.

I just got some nude heels i think they have a 10cm which is the highest i have gone before.. had to send them back for a different size but wish me luck they're very high! lol

I have some Dr. Scholl's for Her ball of foot cushions that I like. They make my slightly loose shoes fit better too.

i have a pair of BN louboutin hung-ups that i've had for well over a year. they have never been worn, and i'm determined to get used to them before buying another pair of loubs.

my first task will be to get to the end of the block, then to starbucks (about three blocks) and finally to the market (about five blocks). i WILL WEAR THESE SHOES!

How do people tackle the issue of walking down hill in heels? I don't wear heels (except for very ocassionally), mainly because I am really worried about about skidding down a hill and landing on my *** (I live at the top of a massive hill!)

^Oo that's tough!
I think what it is I normally do is focus on stepping on the balls of my feet while shifting some weight backwards to prevent tipping over..

stick to concrete and make sure your shoes are none slip on the bottom ( they may just need a bit of roughing on the bottom) and be careful!
If all else fails get a taxi to the bottom of the hill and walk from there lol

Thanks!

I don't know if it's just me, but I've found it easier to run in some heels than to walk in them.

Oh, I completely agree! After a night at the bars, I find it less painful to trot in my heels than to run. I have no idea why, but it works...

Maybe rubber soles could help for not skidding down the hill? I would definitely stick to lower heels at least at first. I've always wondered what I'd do at the grocery store where they have those moving ramps instead of escalators if I were wearing really high heels, it would be dangerous to go on the down ramp, I'd have to stand backwards and hold on tight!

You have to make sure that your feet are flexible enough to stretch beyond the heel height your're wearing. To walk in 4 inch heels on a downward slope, I'd say you'd have to be able to walk in at least 5 inch (we're talking no platform here) heels at a level surface.

And to walk downhill in 5 inch heels? Well, take a look at my avatar.. :D

Heehee, there's some kind of physics involved here too. Someone should come up with a formula where you can plug in the gradient of the slope, the height of the heel and the weight and height of the person to figure out if they would topple over. ;)

Leaning back is important because you have to re-centre your body weight. And go really slowly. :)

this is so strange but i just moved to a big city and I have been wearing heels more than i ever used to I just decided to jump right into it and wear heels 3 or 4 times a week as opposed to 1 every other week. I thnik that practice makes perfect in the case of heels I went 13 hrs today in about 3 inch heeled boots. So every one just jump right into it and after a few weeks it is so easy.
