How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

Look at this... it's Kate Moss with running shoe soles in her sky high YSL pumps..

When I wear heels 3 - 4 inches high (which is like every other day) I walk as if I'm walking down a mountain or hill, focusing the weight on the ball of my foot.
:flower:

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the best way to walk comfortably in heels is to swing your butt and hips when you walk. I know it sounds weird but it really does work, trust me.

Oh no. I have agreed to model underwear at an event where I have to wear tall shoes, and I don't know what to do...my feet are so small, the shoes just fall off them. At least I get paid to do it, but I don't know how to keep the shoes on my feet. My feet are so narrow that insoles don't work... :(

you can get some tape, which i THINK is like double side tape to stop your foot from slipping off and I have been looking out for some but i havent seen it lately.. Im not 100% if thats right but you can get something to stop it slipping off and from what i could tell it was like double sided tape..

Otherwise get some shoes if possible with a strap.. I'm sure they will accomodate you.. ( especially if your shoes fall off and you slip then their show looks bad )

Good luck with it all let us all know how it goes

Double sided tape sounds brilliant! I'm thinking about hairspray too, to make it stick. I have my good ol' Burberry knock offs, they have straps (don't know if they're uhm too feisty :D) Oh well, it's only 30 minutes :ninja:

It should be heel to toe.

I walk pretty good in heels. I started out gradually higher shoes as I got more comfortable.

I can walk in 5 inch heels with no problems.

Good luck with it all let us all know how it goes
Well...I had to walk and down a staircase 6 times :ninja: Oddly enough, it went prettty well, even though my toes hurt like **** at the end. It turned out to be 45 mins and my shoes were too big, but I didn't trip one single time. I guess I could manage to get my self together because I got paid  I just pretended I was wearing sneakers, and then it went smoothly. I swear, my feet hurt as soon as I think about the fact that I'm wearing high heels.

oh goodness. I've fallen so many times on high heeled shoes
my first time was completely embarrassing, I would fall on every block...on the street! I couldn't keep my balance, and people were looking at me like I was drunk. haha.
now, I'm so much more confident in high heels. I feel strong, sexy, and very feminine. I do a sexy little walk as if I'm walking down the runway :brows: a guy actually stopped me on the street and said, "I love the way you move."

I've got to agree with The Ida. As soon as I start thinking that I'm wearing heels, I start feeling all the pain and discomfort. If I forget about them, it's so much easier. lol.

i wear three to five inch heels pretty regularly. i find that if i wear the shoes while i'm sitting in front of the mirror doing makeup, that my feet get used to the angle a bit better and it's easier to walk in them when i stand up. just pretend like you are walking on your tip-toes!

I agree with those who advise to swing your hips - most recently gorgeous. Never mind focusing on toe vs. heel etc - forget your feet, chin up and look towards the horizon AND MOVE YOUR HIPS. Really, that´s how it works. ^_^

I want to get better at wearing heels and using all the pretty shoes I've bought over the years when spring comes. As a first step I am wearing heels around the house today. In part because I need to practice and get used to it, in part because most of my shoes arent even broken in.

I am ok with four inch heels, in fact, I can walk around all day in them. But the thought of five inches even gives me a headache and a nosebleed. haha. Also, I may be alone on this, but wedges/platforms are too clunky to walk in! I prefer skinny heels with no platform at all, not even a half inch or hidden platforms.

^ skinny heels do tend to be harder to walk in, the higher they get though. The higher and skinnier the heel the less supported you are and it makes it easier to 'roll' your ankle to the side and lose your balance. For the most part I do agree with you on wedges/platforms , not so much that they're clunky but they're usually too heavy. I found that more expensive/better made ones tend to be made of more lightweight sturdy material. I bought my first pair of wedges last spring and they're light as a feather.
And Annelein is totally right, forget about your feet when you're walking just sway your hips and butt, I know it sounds weird but it really does work. Something about it gets your feet in a certain balance/rythmn. It also keeps your knees loose and not all locked up and stiff. It feels awkward and silly for the first few minutes until you realize that it's totally helping. When I first starting wearing heels I was a wreck and a friend gave me that advice and it was the only thing that worked for me.

This would be much easier to teach/explain if we did videos! I'm a guy so i dont know if i'm the perfect example but some of u girls who say u dont have problems with 5" heels, maybe u should make some videos and share with everybody showing how to walk in high heels properly?

To walk on 3 inches is quite easy, 4 inches are much more difficult. However, with a smaller step and un upright posture I find it possible -- but I got to be careful. I just got a 4 inches scarpim that is a little bigger than it should be and sometimes it just slips out of my foot. But I love the felling!

Ok I found the tape that I was talking about they're from Dr Scholls and its like a gel insert that goes on the back of the shoe to stop your foot from slipping out.. Am buying some this week so i will let you know how it goes. I dont usually have this problem but do with one pair of heels that i have
