How to look stylish on a bicycle?

I love the dutch city bike style but I'm not sure how you can ride a bike with tights and a dress and not have the dress fly up....

not my time ^

I saw some recent pictures of MKO riding in a skirt. I'm not scared of someone seeing my :innocent:. Instead, I'm worried about the back snagging in the gears or wheel.

yes! i always think about that, but my granma told me that back then when women didn't use to wear trousers, they ride with the skirt pulled to one side, sort of tucked. and there is one bycicle design that is called women bycicle (like audry's) where the middle is low, so that you don't have your legs too "up"

If I wore a skirt or dress that day, I usually wore opaque tights or leggings. And like Petit Lucille said, even if I didn't, I would sort of tuck my skirt under my legs. It didn't matter to me if the wind lifted it a bit, but I never considered the snagging issue. I'm lucky it never happened to me! It happened a couple of times when I hastily put a shopping bag on the bike handles, pretty stupid of me.

There is a blog for all things bike-related, that captures stylish people riding their bikes. I believe the blogger also sells cute bike helmets online. I'm not sure how candid and unstyled all the pictures are, but it's nicely done. Quick examples from the first couple pages:

I live in NYC and use my bike to commute and get around. The problem is it's hard to look good; in particular the dreaded helmet problem. I found a few cool helmets, I bought the bern one below (approx $50 USD), but the yakkay ones are great though much more expensive. Any ideas on nice bike fashion from our super chic community?B)

Hey, Girls do i feel ya!!!
I cycle everyday and need to get a helmet as im on the road (brave girl arnt i!!)
I hae a Vintage Raleigh bike that currently looks better than me!
I tend to cycle in flats/soles with grip so i dont slip off the pedals!! I often take a change of shoes with me, but i do struggle on what to wear sometimes!
I had a dress yesterday, that was up round my armpits with the blutery winds we had - luckily i had balck tights on!!:argg:
Also i wrap up as bit chilly, then time i get to work im hot and flustered and we have no shower facilities so do i brave it and be chilly perhaps ?
Such dilemas he he!
I'd say, take a change of shoes, if you are okay in a skirt, then go for it, i did just manage it in a body con style, high waisted denim one the other day to my delight!
But im keen to see other tips too.
P.s Im loveing those helmets though ad shall invest most definately!
Thanks peeps xx

I am going to change the bar tape to silver or glitter. I wear shorts or skinny jeans especially because it is a road bike I am scared of wearing heels or skirts. Anyway I am looking into buying a cute helmet any ideas I was thinking about getting a bern they are so minimal and come in flat colors. I've decided to start biking to class instead of taking the el (subway) or the bus because I think my commute is actually shorter that way because no stops or traffic and I can take a bike trail almost all of the way.

I haven't worn a helmet since I was 10 :ninja:

I really want to buy a bicycle again (they tend to get stolen where I live), but between November and March, I'm done riding my bike anywhere. We get a lot of unstable weather and one never knows when one will be hit by heavy showers...I've had pneumonia one time too many because of this

I just want a helmet when I am riding downtown. I dont wear one on the bike trail or when I am in an area with little traffic. but I dont want to be hit by a taxi or something downtown.

Oh! I have to show you this :D Me and my friend were the first to wear helmets in our town, and we were in the newspaper...in 1987  I was HOT :woot:

Whatever you wear when riding your bicylce, the helmet is necessary for safety.

Nobody wears helmets in Japan, except speed-bikers or whatever you call them. We really should start.

I usually wear jeans or a shorter skirt with tights or leggings. When I'm just going around the neighborhood I might wear long skirts, but sit on the hem. The other day I cycled for an hour in super-high platforms; it wasn't impossible but rather exhausting on muscles I don't normally use. I wouldn't do it again. Obviously flats or sneakers are ideal.

More than that, rain and sweat are the biggest issues for cycling seriously to work...I wouldn't cycle to an important event.

I always wear a helmet; it's the law where I live and I've had a couple of nasty accidents on the road where wearing a helmet has saved me from being head-injured. It's probably ok to not wear one in countries where the traffic doesn't flow so quickly, there are better constructed bike lanes and car/bus/truck drivers don't have that "I own the road" attitude. It's also the law to ride on the road rather than the footpath and the drivers in Melbourne are insane, drive fast and don't hesitate to drive in bike lanes whenever they want to despite it being illegal and despite cyclists using them. Most car drivers also hate cyclists for a number of reasons, it's a very car-centric culture. I have a nice red dirt bike helmet.

If I am just riding around town I'll wear what I normally wear, usually straight leg jeans or a skirt/dress with either tights or leggings. In summer I wear either shorts or a skirt/dress with lycra shorts underneath in case of skirt flare up. I wear my bike shoes that have cleats on the sole as my bike has clipless pedals.

I think it should be made law here too...otherwise I'll never wear a helmet, that's for sure. I can't stand the feeling :ninja:

Here's a little pic of some bicycle-style...a lot of Danish girls wear these types of thing when riding their bikes
