How to look taller?

I'm pretty short too, around 5.5 but I HATE wearing heels.
I wouldn't wear floor length skirts if you're slim you'll probably just drown in them (at least I do :D) but rather go with miniskirts or knee-length. Nothing below the knee. I also only wear jackets that don't go beneath 3/4 of my butt and absolutely no coats.

I didn't even remember creating this thread, but I'm thrilled I found it again! It's ended up being very helpful! Since I posted this, I've found some other advice, too:

Long lines, like a long *fitted* black coat and black heels, can be incredibly lengthening as long as the cut and fit isn't overwealming.

Keep cut and patterns, for the most part, simple.

Loose weight. Between that and the heels, I've had a good number of people assume I'm at least 5'7".

In regards to the confidence, this must sound like a lunatic, but it's been helpful to me: Picture yourself in your mind as being model tall. You automatically begin to move in a different way, your body is carried with the confidence we all associate with glamazons. You don't have to decide you'll be "cute" because of your height; you can choose you'll still be sexy. It's all just playing pretend - very fun and kinda useful.

Can you post pictures of what to wear to look taller? That would really help ! :) Thanks !

This is an insole to put in your sneakers or boots, its somewhat one of my secrets and great for short men

i've read lots of complaing about 5' something" being too short, but i think im even shorter. im 4'10½" i like extremes, so im always wearing flats or 3-inches high heels, and also i think wearing black pants with heels and some white t-shirt and a scarf gives you a taller look, it's all about how long your legs look.

Vertical lines, high waisted skirts and pants, long pants with a high heel underneath (the hem must go almost the way to the floor and the heels must be HIGH), miniminiminimini skirts, and monochromatic head-to-toe.

I'm 4'10 as well! I have learned through the years that wearing clothes that fit properly and are not baggy is the main key. Also, less is definitely more. Too many prints or accessories overwelms a small body. The other is always my 4-inch heels!

I'm 5'2 so I feel ya!

Just getting clothes that fit your body will do wonders! I'm talking petite jeans (instead of getting regulars hemmed) because the rise will be made for smaller proportions and blouses that fit your shoulders. Someone above also recommended that you dress in monochromatic colors which I also think is an excellent rec.

Wear tapered pants with wedge heels underneath that was my advice to my friend who is 5 feet tall.Use belts and sharp silhouettes too.

I'm 5'10" and quite thin but built more curvy/muscular (less like a model, more like a dancer) and so my legs tend to look much shorter than the 35" inseam they actually are -- so certainly not the same as being shorter, but I'm concerned with making sure I look as tall and thin as I actually am. Sky-high heels/wedges and higher-waisted well-fitting slim black pants pretty much every day!

oh, and my love of concealed platforms is unparallelled -- i swear they make everyone's legs look impossibly long and thin, even in ankle boots. so amazing.

I'm 5'4" so I have always tried looking taller. I wear heels a lot under pants.

Dark denim! I can't stress enough how much dark denim makes my legs look so much longer than lighter denim or white denim pants. If you're gonna wear skinny jeans, wear them with heels, wedges, ankle boots, boots, whatever. I usually wear skinnies over ankle bootie wedges to make it look continuous. Make sure the shoes match the pants to make it seem like your legs go on. Dark denim bootcut jeans are fabulous too with platforms under (think Rachel Zoe, doesn't have to be bell bottoms).

Also fitted pants that hit under my knee or at the calf, such as leggings, make my legs look longer than wearing leggings that hit at the ankle. I think it's cause it shows more of my calves, which are really skinny so they create a longer leg look.

Short a-line skirts also make legs look longer since they hide your thighs and you can pull them up high-waisted.

For the fall/winter, wear boots that hit mid-calf or about 2 inches under your knee and avoid slouchy boots. This will make your legs look like they aren't swamped in all boot.

I second whoever said pilates will make you look leaner. I've done it for a couple months and I felt taller. It feels like your muscles are stretching.

Stand with your back straight! So many girls don't and just slouch. Standing up straight makes you appear much taller and more confident :)

I'm about 5'3", and I have a petite body like Eva Longoria's (did I spell that correctly?), and I hate getting all the "cute" comments. You see all the tall, "sexy" girls, how do you give that illusion? How do you have the illusion of being taller with fashion? Mainly, I just live in high heels

GREAT thread missy!
im in the same boat, petite but im shorter.. 5'1  lol

^ Oh definitely; I think with being fit (going to a gym/exercising daily), my posture approves - walking and jogging for intense I find myself not slouching as much.

But otherwise wedged shoes and heels help :p Whenever wearing jeans, I go for an tighter fit and in most cases, a darker wash. And I love boycon skirts, mostly because they're great for my shape and somehow I do feel more 'taller', as if they make my torso appear longer than it is.

Can't believe there are so many girls here complaining about 5'2-5'5 being "too short", even though this is pretty much average for most females. I'm a MALE and i'm..well..SHORT and i CANNOT wear stilletos. I've never really felt bad about being short, even though it wouldn't hurt to be taller i guess.
