I have a stupid question: I buy a lot of vintage dresses and some are just too big (waist, hips, etc). Some I just can't take in for whatever reason. I read an article that said that Rachel Zoe dresses Nicole Ritchie in vintage and pins the clothes so they don't look too big. My question is: how? Safety pins? Is there some special clothes pin I should be able to buy to pin clothes to fit temporarily so I can wear them out, or is she referring to safety pins or the normal thin clothes pins that you use when sewing (the kind with the head on one end).

thanks for any help given.

By pins she probably means the pins with the heads, so that she can sew them. While a safety pin could work, it could also split part of the material with movement. That's the risk, unfortunately. But it shouldn't be too hard to take in something... a beginning sewing class will help tremendously. :)

Pinning is just a process in refitting (or fitting). So the pins won't be in place forever.
