Some pieces are a little balenciagaish.
Totally agree- the puffy sleeves, the assymetrical sleeveless "coat" design, and the colorful floral/aquatic elements all reminded me a lot of these things:

don't like the "styrofoam tubes" on the dresses nor the prints, but the white dresses are very nice, very flattering

eh...
i haven't liked his stuff for several seasons now...
and i remain unimpressed by this...

i think that he was actually MUCH more wearable when he was doing dresses that turned into tables...
this stuff is not nice...imo...

:(

Yeah ... Im not a fan its decent but expected more ... softie ... wudnt you agree that those sugar-candy dresses he did seasons ago wud be ALL the rage now? :p

Hmmmm ... after seeing Yohji, I have to say I'm actually rather impressed with how the garden hoses/tubes/giant piping/snakes/whatever they are are manipulated in this collection. That said, if anyone starts a garden hose thread in trend spotting, I will scream

Some of the white dresses are beautiful, and I do like the way some of them highlight the female form ... quite lovely. One would almost think these were designed by a straight man ... ^_^ I don't know very much about this designer, but perhaps someone will clue me in

His concept will be compelling no doubt but even before knowing more about it...I love it! The shapes & intricate cut-out effects ~ gorgeous

his concepts and the cerebral challenge he engages when he designs are praiseworthy but I can't help but feel that his clothes are not flattering to women with lumps and bumps and who are over 25....thats the problem. The provides a highly developed and architectural response to dressing but its impractical for womens needs imo. There are very few dresses here that, whilst I can see their design merits, i could atually wear because I'd be so self conscious. The Japanese don't present this challenge (although there are others) as the clothes are more democratic when it comes to the physical attributes needed to wear them. I wonder if Hussein even considers this part of his design remit......

flatted bicycle tyre...
the first thing that struck me...

Yikes, it is quite Balenciagaish. The first set of pictures that faust posted I quite like, though. interesting geometry

Seems,Hussein has taken similar route as Preen. I can't help but to think, what is so influential about the Nicolas silhouette everybody seems to be riding on these days?

I thought the white dress Baron posted detail of created a little grotto shrine to the female form. So while I think a focus on girls' rather than women's bodies is epidemic in fashion, I see Hussein as very much lighting the way with those showcase white dresses :flower:

Check out the Cathy Pill thread ... she is giving Proenza Schouler a run for their money with the training bra set ;)

I agree with you, though, about the snakes (were any/all of these meant as a shrine to the male form?). Just carrying my vintage bag generates more comments than I care to get (Middle Eastern guy on the elevator today at lunchtime wanted to know if it was a purse or a kettle)--I can't imagine what I'd have to listen to if I went nuts & bought something like this ...

Beautiful dresses will always make me smile! I agree some of the pieces are a little ghesquiere, but then at least as aesthetics go it can hardly be a bad thing.

the more i see from this, the less i like :ninja:
