Armani's first couture collection (SS05) produced some great looks that went unnoticed. Maybe they don't cater towards young buyers, but I can see someone like Susan Sarandon in them, easily:

As far as fashion promotion goes, YSL SS05 was a thundering success. Nearly every look out of this collection has been seen: either on the red carpet, or in magazines.

Like I said, YSL this season was a thundering success in many ways: publicity, influence (the egg-shaped skirt was all over the runway in AW05), creative direction (no longer living in the shadow of Tom Ford). Gucci, on the other hand, was unusually quiet.
