Unlike ANY other designer handbag, Hermes bags are hand made and the fact that Birkins are heavy and "plain" is part of their appeal to those who want timeless investment pieces of incomparable quality.

I'd never feel the need to defend myself against owning anything made by Hermes!

The only downside to owning one these days is that Birkins have entered the popular consciousness because of our obsession with all things "celeb." It's not so great when your cab driver knows how much your bag costs.

I would have a designer specifically design a bag for me. I'd ask it'd be made with croc leather and platinum hardware. Plus if I design it myself its unique and no one else will have it.

That's odd. I've never heard anyone with a Birkin say that it doesn't hold much. My Birkin is the only bag that holds as much junk as it does, and I've used the biggest bags over the past few years. And Birkins come in many types of leather that are only used by Hermes.

Here again is my beloved Birkin. To answer the question, I would love a black crocodile 30 cm Birkin.

I must agree with CelineChic...

Birkins are nothing to special to me, and their recent ubiquity makes it even worse.

I find it incredibly anti-style and boring that 50% of the answers were "Birkin"
