If Money Was No Object What Bag Would You Get?

I'm not digging that bag at all...like most of the Dior bags, its just fashionable for a season...

it looks tacky.

That's my problem with Dior bags, too. IMO, if you're going to spend that much on a bag, buy something timeless.

I love those Chanel bags.

TheSoCalledPrep, I agree.

yeah the one on ebay looked weird but yeah they retail for a couple thousand

I must agree with CelineChic...

Birkins are nothing to special to me, and their recent ubiquity makes it even worse.

I find it incredibly anti-style and boring that 50% of the answers were "Birkin"

Each Hermes handbag is handmade and as such is a work of art.

I'm ALL for "anti-style" if being stylish means having to replace a trendy, machine made 1K bag every year.
And in fact, only the fakes are ubiquitous, but that's another story.

5 years ago, most American women wouldn't have recognized a Birkin. I guarantee that most didn't know a Kelly when they saw one.

I'm really sad to see all of the resentment that these glorious bags have caused.

The Birkin has been around longer than most of the people who post on this board. Suddenly, people feel compelled to take sides" on the Birkin issue!

Hermes has been around well over 100 years. As a shrewdly managed business still closely held by the Hermes family, it's in little danger of going the way of the fendibendylouisguccis! STYLE is not the total point chez Hermes.

I for one and GLAD of it.

Yes, only the fakes are everywhere.... but that still means the DESIGN is all over the place, if not the craftsmanship.

But, you are very correct in some ways - Great points made, Belle.

But I'll stick with my little opinion.

Right now I'm crushing on a gorgeous YSL tan colored, oversized, squashy, crocodile man bag that I saw in a men's Vogue supplement........it's just beautiful.

Well, I won't attempt to convice you otherwise, but so are Chanel suits, diamonds and sable coats. Hermes Birkins are right up there with these iconic items, IMO. It's just that FEW knew of Birkins because they were somewhat rarified. Now, EVERYONE is an expert because they saw Martha carrying one on TV.

I would be willing to bet that even today few women have seen a real Birkin in person. Once you hold it, see it, and carry it, most understand why it's the Queen of Handbags and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

The life of a fake has an interesting trajectory. First, there is the elation of thinking that you've pulled it off. Then, DOUBT creeps in one day when some chic woman with the REAL bag gives the fake a dismissive look. Then, the fake Birkin wearer simply gets bored with her rapidly fading fake. WHY?? It's FAKE! It holds no allure. "High quality" Birkin and Kelly fakes are still inferior products, and soon even the best fakes lose their shiny "gold" finishes and fall apart. When they haven't a CHANCE of fooling ANYONE, they invariably wind up discarded in a shameful heap somewhere in the back of a closet. Rare is the woman who'll have enough guts to replace one useless fake with another soon-to-be useless fake.

The only thing that could cause the genuine Birkins and Kellys to lose their allure would be if Hermes came out with a cheaper version of the Birkin.

I doubt that will happen.

I recall the Times (I think) recently doing a survey of top fashion folk, asking whether the overexposure of the Birkin a la L'il Kim and Martha meant its demise. Not ONE said yes.

The consensus was that at some point in a woman's life, ya' just GOTTA have it.

You just proved that most people that are into fashion are just sheep. Most didn't know about the Birkin until it was featured on SATC. Then of course every wanna be fashionista had/wanted one.

I think it was a lot more fashionable before some character who played a sl*t wanted it on a show.

I hope you're not implying that I was unaware of Birkin or Kelly bags until recently and am "feeling compelled to take sides" on the issue. I am a born Parisian. I was wearing Hermes baby shoes before I was 1. My mother is quite a loyal costomer and has been since she was in her teens.

I just have to laugh at all the people who want one now that its been wanted by a character on a show. If they wanted it for its exceptional quality then why weren't they begging for it before?

That's odd. I've never heard anyone with a Birkin say that it doesn't hold much. My Birkin is the only bag that holds as much junk as it does, and I've used the biggest bags over the past few years. And Birkins come in many types of leather that are only used by Hermes.

Here again is my beloved Birkin. To answer the question, I would love a black crocodile 30 cm Birkin.

Thats odd. I believe I've seen that picture floating on a few sites and on ebay

to look at Birkin dosn't seem too great but like someone said in person I'm sure it's different.. But I dunno I like a little more exciting bags!

My comments prove nothing of the kind. That's YOUR take on it.

I have news for you. The ENTIRE FASHION BUSINESS counts on people being SHEEP.

Actually, I wasn't addressing you personally at all. You don't have to validate yourself to me. I DON"T KNOW YOU.

Now, THAT I find INFINITELY more amusing than "sheep like" Birkin buyers.

You were addressing the people who took a stance on the issue. I was one of those people. I was then led to respond. I don't find it funny. I find it to be common sense, no?

Whether you are addressing one person or a group, of which I was in, I believe we all have the right to respond.

Of course, you have a right to do as you please within the guidelines of this board.

BTW, did you suggest a "stylish" alternative to the boring Birkin? All I saw was your "I'm SOOOO bored..." post. Perhaps I missed it.

I'm curious, if you so despise people who are into "fashion" WHY on EARTH do you call yourself CelineChic and post on THIS BOARD? And, my MY-- scouting Ebay Birkin auctions, are we???

Do Tell.

:innocent:

Okay, okay... calm down. :order: You both have extremely valid points, IMO... but... they're just opinions. No one has the FASHION GOSPEL WORD here.

Taking a quick look back I see that someone else made the "I'm so bored post", and Celine Chic wants a custom croc bag with some sort of hardware. Alors! I don't want to put words into CC's Parisian born mouth!

I'll still stick with my brique Birkin and elephant hide Kelly, with an Anya Hindmarch Ebury thrown in for good measure.

Et les sacs d' Hermes?-- ils ont ete achete chez Hermes bien avant la naissance de CC, j'en suis SUR.

Eh bien, chaque'un a son gout!

I did suggest an alternative that is much more unique and less sheepish. Never said I despise people who are into fashion, I just laugh at them. I prefer people with their own personal style. The same people who think that a bag is gorgeous just because it costs money and it was featured on some show. It saddens me to think that but its the truth.

Yes I often go on ebay to see how much people are buying them for. Thought it would be cool to sell one of the many Birkins my mother has and doesnt use on ebay. The only problem is that the ones she doesnt use are pretty old.

I doubt its going to happen anyway, I just go on ebay out of curiousity. Have not ever bought or sold anything on ebay except one time when I had my friend sell a pair of my old sunglasses and an old purse. :flower:

Do you have anymore questions for me?
