Interview December 2015 : Kylie Jenner by Steven Klein

This is so OLD-FASHIONED it's ridiculous!
Kylie is not the problem, Klein is.
This is not sexy, nor provocative, nor anything.

The freakin wheelchair again???

Just no.

I actually really like this.

I've always admired Steven Klein's aesthetic and I think her 'plastic' appearance on a daily basis isn't far from how she's been portrayed here. I know she's 18, but we don't question when an 18 year old model has done this for artful purposes, so I don't question her doing it for the sake of art for Interview Magazine - an art publication.

The whole purpose is for her to look like a sex doll. I appreciate them paying homage to Allen Jones especially to his 'Hatstand and Table' Series.

I'm even compelled to buy this. I think it's quite beautiful in a grim way.

They probably had a limited number of themes to choose from given how plastic her face actually is.

She's receiving A LOT of backlash from SJWs for her wheelchair pictures! In the interview she justifies the wheelchair because her fame restricts her from doing "so much".

I think these sisters actually think they earned fame and acquired wealth from talent?

This is like picking petals from daisies, "she's being objectified,", "she's not being objectified."

I laugh at how people bemoan about her age. I'm sure many models, even younger than her have posed for Klein or other photographers like this. You highlight it here because you know her age and because she's a member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.

It's becoming more and more annoying to see this family everywhere! Where's the exclusivity, the class and decency that celebrities should have? The worst thing is that teenagers are saying that she is a role model... The reality is that she's used as an object to sell and I find it extremely degrading (same thing for her model sister).
It's not an achievement to be seen as a sex object for me. If her parents think they raised her well then I don't know what to say about this family. She's 18 and I know that some models do the same kind of editorials at the same age but they aren't followed by 40+ million people... Also, models aren't selling themselves, they sell the clothes and the accessories they are wearing.
Anyway, let's focus about the cover story, Kylie's face looks really off to me. What's going on with her lips? I never found her to be attractive so this looks weird...
I'm not keen on this kind of themes but this looks interesting, Raquel Z. would have been amazing in this editorial for example.

I get all the references, but references are not enough. You have to synthesise something new from them, and I don't think this is as good as a Kylie Jenner sex-doll editorial should be. It falls short in what should be her visual specialism.

Stunts like these keep the magazines alive! Props to the creative and PR teams.

Anyway, the edit is pretty good, Kylie did an ok job and Klein didn't use the blue filter, so a YAS from me.

Am I the only person that finds that quite....boring?
I mean, sex and Kardashian is not a shocking pair at this point. Even the "she is 18" comments are kinda irrelevant when most of the models selling sex are younger than her.

She looks bad IMO (everytime) but i find interesting that the fashion community is now "using" her. Let's face it, Kendall has almost nothing to offer. She is a (beautfiul) rather bland girl and while she is supported by her sister's friends, Gigi has clearly stoled the spotlight with her campaigns, boyfriends and covers.

Now Kylie who have a more interesting look, love life and a rather mysterious story is on the cover of Interview...

^Lady Gaga??? Klein has been using wheelchair as a prop for ages, which is actually something he borrowed from Helmut Newton.

I know all that dear. BUT i dont think the random internet viewer in his/her wheelchair know everything about Fashion Photography history. so lets give this girl some credit for raising something she doesnt feel comfortable about: that a non-handicap woman pose in the chair she seems to hate, and pretends like it's cool ...

its 2015. people complain for everything and anything. im just getting used to it. so dont be so mean when im just coming back here ! ahah.

oh and the lady gaga chair, well click the link. her chair and the one klein's been using recently are very similar. maybe its klein's own, and gaga copied him ... i d k ... they're not my friends.

OMG but this is so boring. Don't get what the fuss is all about.

This is typical SK which I find extremely uninspiring His men are so much better and more interesting than his women As far as the editorials It is very mediocre She clearly doesn't offer anything new or exciting to the table Even with references

I find it more funny than anything else. I mean come on! It's hilarious! It's horrible and grotesque, but that's why it works.

It reminds me of this:

Celebrities and Art is a real subject tho (huh warhol ? ring a bell ? the Tate is about to have a lecture about that, there was a paparazzi exhibit not so long ago touring europe ... etc)

considering her personal background and being part of a family of plastics and posers, this concept is just plain obvious. Neither interesting/novel nor remotely shocking (i.e. Warhol death and disaster or Koons Made in Heaven).

And there is nothing worse than boring art...

The cover and editorial left me speechless, not in a good way. It's not so much Klein's redundant Madonna/bondage-setting (which we've seen countless times for Interview, btw) or this foolish girl, dressed up in a tart's attire. It's more that it feels a bit weird to see Fabien also jumping onto this ship and applying himself to this to sloppily. I thought Interview was supposed to take whatever is trending in pop culture, and spin an interesting twist to it, make it look somewhat fresh? This is the final straw for me - first Bieber (like we always saw him), then Miley (like we always saw her), now a Kardashian modelling reject (ditto)??? This is just another blatant grab to capitalize on that wretched family's famewhoring ways, there's nothing 'new' here at all.

If we consider her daily drake/kanye aesthetic (o m g i spend too much time on tumblr!), the twist is pretty much made here. i feel she's more like a chola-chic kinda girl, isnt she?
kanye's style is not something i associate w helmut newton aesthetic, really.

let's be honest with (y)ourselves, what i don't like is the model - or at least, what she embodies ... it's not really the story - which, we established it, is a classic !
i found out the Newton/Auerman story is 20yrs this year ... Also realized the Newton editorial was about shoes - what i guess newton was saying w these photog : its as hard to walk with these glamorous sticks than with medical sticks.

the editorial here says what? femme-objet, pop art, sex, and the disabilities/abilities fame brings when you've been entitled this said-fame (without you havin a word in this decision) by your mom, sistas and international media before you even knew what pythagorean theorem was.

even tho, i say i d c about this family, im still intrigued at how they manage to get there. i mean they were just some sort of BH90210 pet-props who managed to made it up there using the XYMillenialsWhatev Elite SilverSpoon Gen schemes (real tv, being the face of a brand, tabloid and p*rn scandals etc) to their advantages.

Maybe Baron wants to show how hard it can be sometimes to be "imprisoned" in the image people have created for you ... without your consent. I d k how this show works ...

~ was it a good idea to come back here now, the place where i can go monologue on so many paragraphs ... ? ouch
