Irina Lazareanu

What's she got around her arms in the pics above - is it a rumpled blazer, jacket, shawl or something? And is her top made of leather or am I seeing things?

Anyway, it looks like she's gonna be the host for a magazine launch party in NY. The event will be called 'Some Place Along The Way' and there'll be performances by Peter Doherty, Sean Lennon, Irina and Adam Green. More details here.

“Remember the Chanel show when I actually started walking the show, and then I got up onstage and started singing?”

I sure do! And there is an after show interview with Karl on YouTube where he says- "Well, she has to get serious and get her album out..." that was 27 months ago...and when is the last time you saw Karl anywhere near Irina? :(

The last time for me was when Irina attended the Chanel spring 2010 runway show.

This week in New York City is a busy one for Irina Lazareanu. Her birthday was on Tuesday, and today she hosts a star-studded benefit – something she pretty much threw together on the fly. It’s a release event for Corduroy magazine and a benefit for Kiva.org, a charity that provides micro-loans around the world to help alleviate poverty. Although the logistics were handled by event organisers, you can credit Irina for the main attractions. Can you imagine Pete Doherty and Sean Lennon jamming together on the same stage? Well, Irina can – and she can also call them both up and tell them to start rehearsing. They did so by emailing practice sessions back and forth across the Atlantic. However, getting Pete himself across the ocean proved more challenging. I think the hardest thing was getting Pete’s visa Irina says. When they asked if he’d ever had any infractions, we had to answer, um, well, yeah, like 27. Apparently, it’s harder for Pete Doherty to get into this country than most would-be terrorists, even though he’s only ever veered toward self-destruction, not mass-destruction. But that’s a whole other matter best left to the tabloids. Besides, Irina succeeded at getting him in. So it’s all set for Thursday, the hottest ticket in town.

Sitting in her Bowery apartment just a few days before the event, Irina tells me she has even more surprises in store––but that I’m not allowed to write about it. Do you still want to know who it is?” she asks temptingly. Of course I say yes. But, as promised, I won’t tell. Let’s just say I’m happy I’ll be there.

Although a famous model, muse, musician, “it” girl, “friend of Kate”, etc, etc, Irina considers herself mainly a writer, and laughs at all the clichéd labels that get attached to her. I write every day, she says. That’s what I do – poetry and spoken-word especially.” She holds up her notebook and leafs through the pages to show me volumes of verse, all scribbled down. For me, it’s all about words, she continues, whether as lyrics, spoken-word, whatever. I’m a storyteller, and I want to get my ideas and feelings on paper and communicate them in whatever way I can.

Moments later, she segues into a story about getting ready for Thursday’s show, the climax of which is this: there was this point when the boys were all rehearsing at the studio and Sean’s friend Harper was there [Harper Simon, son of Paul Simon], and so Paul comes over, and Yoko was there too, and everyone is just hanging out and jamming, exchanging ideas, and all of a sudden I had this vision of the scene from the outside and thought to myself, this is really crazy. I mean, I’m just a kid from Canada. I had to call my Dad. I said, Dad, you’re not going to believe this...

Irina Lazareanu plays today at Milk Studios in Manhattan with Pete Doherty, Sean Lennon, Adam Green, BP Fallon, and surprise special guests.

A Day In the Life: From Fittings to the CFDA Red Carpet with Irina

Models, designers, celebrities came together last night to celebrate the 2010 CFDA awards, held at Alice Tully Hall, and between the stunning fashion, memorable moments, and well-deserving winners, it was truly a night to cherish. Irina Lazareanu partied the night away with her date Phillip Lim and wrote to Modelinia to share all the details of her evening!

I had an absolutely amazing time at the CFDAs last night! The preparation process took almost the whole day, with me doing fittings with Phillip Lim in the morning, when we went with a dress that was very casual chic yet absolutely perfect for a formal occasion also. Later in the afternoon, I had my make-up session with Beau Nelson from The Wall Group, who did a wonderful job on my look. Before the event itself, Phillip and I already had a fantastic time together on the red carpet, where we talked about anything and everything…or at least we tried in between all the posing for photographs!
My favorite part of the night was just seeing some great friends win well-deserved awards…Richard Chai, Alex Wang, Marc Jacobs, Marcus and David of Rag & Bone…I was so happy for them all! The tribute to Alexander McQueen was also very moving. Just from the few pieces in his final collection, it’s beyond obvious that he was a wonderful talent and will be greatly missed. It was definitely a very emotional moment when the tribute was taking place onstage, because he was someone I believe everyone respected and admired.

The afterparty at the Boom Boom Room was of course another highlight…everyone was there just being carefree and having fun, and I had a wonderful time dancing with people…some of whom I haven’t seen in ages. It was a great night of celebration, and I was glad to be a part of it all!” ~ Irina Lazareanu

any information on how that event she hosted went? i'm eager to know... i'd be great if there were recordings of the songs they performed.

peter didn't make it to nyc (or to be more accurate: apparently he's been greeted by the police/homeland security on jfk and was told to fly straight back to london. i don't even know why they let him into the states in the first place with all his infractions-- but then sending him back.. like "kthxbye"? the madness.)

videos from the night..

At the gig she played and the picture with the suit and tie she reminds me so much of Patti Smith! Very chic and beautiful.
