Isabel Marant F/W 11.12 Paris

This has to be one of her worst collections. The boots are hideous. I can also see people like Bosworth parading around in them. This is not good.

for me it's not even all about those boots (even though i find them quite tragic)..is the whole collection is just plain boring and uninspiring, there's not even a single look that i like, not even a single piece that i would like to wear :(

i always find that Isabel Marant and Balmain are similar in some way!!

I TRIED to like the boots, TRIED to, but it looks like Big League Chew has been plastered onto the the shoes. But being Native American, I don't see what the obsession with Native inspired pieces... :innocent:

Well, that's just rude...

I expect, if we saw your wardrobe, some of us might worry that you couldn't make parts of it work, too?

However, I hope most of us would be far too polite to say so?! ^_^

I'm not a huge fan of the haircut in your avatar, for example, but that doesn't mean that I would say (or even think) that I felt sorry for the unfortunate woman who thought she could make it work.

Not everyone has the same taste and here, in the UK, we don't seem to have the same, permanent, aversion to fringe as many Americans seem to have (due to the Western connotations, no doubt?), for example.

Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean no one can make it work, where they come from.

For your comprehension, I define an unfortunate woman as one who attempts to incorporate an it-item at the peril of her own image. I do not like to see women teetering upon high heels and what not just to participate in a certain trend. If you are not any of these, good for you. I wouldn't be surprised to these become a hit simply because they are Isabel Marant and can make a statement. There is nothing nonchalant about them though a nonchalant confidence is what defines Isabel Marant for me.
Could you care to explain how one statement of mine, which you chose to misinterpret, gives you enough license to philosophize from what's in my closet to the sartorial differences between Americans and Brits, not to mention the state of my avatar? If I was being presumptuous then how different are your statements from the one which you attack me for? But thank you for your apprehension over my wardrobe, I'd do the same for you.

there are girls out there that not only have gorgeous legs, but will also really love the boots. just because you're not one of those girls (with the above qualities), doesnt mean you have to dismiss the rest of us
 Yes, how could I, with my unbecoming legs, possibly understand the beauty of these boots.

That may be what you meant to say, but that is not how it came across.

Besides, why are these, necessarily, an 'it' item?

I had fringed suede moccasins, as a child in the early '80s, I have a fringed suede bag, from the mid-to-late '90s and various bags and other items with tassels from the mid and late '00s; so, clearly, fringes and tassels are are a recurrent theme which is very rarely far from the runway.

So, why do you say they're an 'it' item and why do you assume that incorporating them into one's wardrobe would, automatically, cause one's image peril?

Quite honestly, to me, other than the height (which might be an issue for me, personally, but many others seem to be fine with?), boots like this are pretty tame, easy-to-wear and easy to incorporate into many wardrobes.

OK, well, if your point really was referring merely to heel height, then I could quite possibly agree with you.

I also tend to wear flat boots, personally, as I don't feel the need to sacrifice comfort and stablilty for (in my case, unrequired) extra height and I would hope that other women (of any height) don't feel compelled to wear heels; especially if they find them uncomfortable.

Why you would pick on these particular boots, if so, though, I still can't quite understand? As, surely, there have been many more, far more treacherous heels than these ones, in virtually every R-T-W show imaginable?

I have to admit that I just assumed you were, therefore, referring to the overall style and/or the fringing, rather than the height of the heel; as that just seemed far more likely, to me.

But, coming to think of it, doesn't Marant normally do flats? In which case, I guess it should have occurred to me that you might, possibly, just be referring to the height?

But, if so, to say you 'feel sorry for the unfortunate woman who thinks she can make these boots work' still seems rather OTT, as a great number of women wear heels, of one type or another, of course; so are you really suggesting that none of these women can make their high heels work with their wardrobes?

I was trying to turn what you said back onto you, in a purely theoretical sort of way (as I, obviously, have no idea what's in your wardrobe!), so that you would then understand how your comment might make someone feel bad and apparently, from your response, it worked?

I was also trying to make a general point, about how we ALL, probably, have things in our wardrobes that other people wouldn't, necessarily, approve of; but that that's absolutely OK, as we all have different tastes.

I was making this point, as that did not appear to be your stance - your stance appeared to be that it was, somehow, your business to sympathise with anyone who might choose to wear a pair boots you didn't like?

The reference to the haircut was just a convenient anology, as it's (presumably) something that you like the look of(?), which, while not really to my taste, personally, would be perfectly acceptable for someone else to like and wear, if they wanted to; without engaging my sympathy.

The American/Brit fringe thing was just referring to a general observation I've made, over the years, about how taste can often vary, not just between individuals, but, also, between continents and cultures and the point I was trying to make was that the taste of different people and cultures is all equally valid.

If you don't appreciate people responding to you, by making comments about what they might (even theoretically) find and not approve of, in your wardrobe, may I suggest that you try not to make judgmental comments (or comments that may appear to be judgmental), about other people's tastes, yourself, in future?

I don't know what it is you fail to understand. Plainly speaking, these boots, like quite a few things on the runways, are difficult to translate into real-life. More often than not, most people fail at giving a personal touch and some people just wear things just for the sake of it being from their favorite label. I find that unfortunate.

There's no need to tell me what the purpose of this forum is, I can manage that by myself. Theoretically, or not, I find your delineations towards my wardrobe quite absurd. If, indeed, my remark was as offensive as you portray it to be, in hindsight, I would have been more than willing to apologize to those, like you, of the sensitive nature. But I do not find it offensive. You are the one that has a difference of opinion but chose to express it in a far more alienating and judgmental way.

I thought exactly that when viewing the collection.

unlike you, i don't have half a day to waste writing you back and analyzing your comments sentence by sentence. so i'm won't get all PC with you over a pair of (quite lovely) fringed boots. you really do sound so judgmental and ridiculous. read your initial comment..."you feel sorry for.....". who are you anyways?! all u had to say...like the rest of these people is...these boots are great or they're really not for me.

don't waste your time feeling sorry for anyone hun...most of the girls who love the boots will wear them and look phenomenal i'm sure. you just focus on enjoying your unassuming flat boots.

You are ridiculous and quite hypocritical. You are the one who deemed it necessary to make a viral judgment upon my appearance because of a statement you did not agree with, thus personalizing a general conversation.

I don't consider it a waste to reply to flagrant comments which not only convoluted my meaning but adopted a pompous tone. There are better ways to express your opinion but that wasn't one of them. Clearly you will continue to do so.

Furthermore, who are you to determine what another user can say or not say? In no way was my comment against any of the guidelines set up by this forum. I suggest you get used to the wide ranging of opinions on this site instead of resorting to personal attacks. And please refrain from any endearments, they make an already hypocritical statement seem more foolish.

Please explain why my response was 'more alienating and judgmental' than your intial comment.

the white fringe boots look ok, don't like the black ones though...

overall, I could have gone with another inspiration, feels like it has been showns on every catwalk throughout the years...

count me among those who don't understand why there exists an uproarious discourse about such an easily digestible collection. is the stuff for everyone? clearly not. but there exists thousands of girls from west hollywood to montmartre who will eat this stuff up.

There are items I do not enjoy, but so many of the individual pieces I find myself desiring. Mainly the dresses, coats and jackets. I am not so sold on most of the pants this season... and the boots i actually kind of like in gray O_O haha but yes... I am not 100% about this... not her best but I am still a big supporter

this is really boring and so not-inovative collection

softgrey, allow me

...what does this mean?...

i usually do that when i love something...
and i definitely don't love this...

:ninja:

it's ok...
i don't care...
it's overpriced and trendy and there are lots of other great options out there at the moment...
so....

NEXT...

:P
