Jamaican Models

OMG I just opened the first page and I loooooooooove those images!

Jaunel and Gaye in the new issue of Jones Mag

Does anyone know anything about this mag?

The Iconic Lois

More from Jones mag seeming love-affair with Jamaica. The iconic model-turned-photog-turned-designer, Lois Samuels has been featured.

Step inside the Vessel by Lois showroom in downtown New York City and you'll find it's not like that of most designers. There are no crowded inspiration walls, no interns frantically zipping filled garment bags and stuffing them into trunks. No stylists conducting frenzied, last-minute fittings on half-dressed models. The room is quaint, serene and decidedly minimalist, much like Lois Samuels' design philosophy.

The beautiful supermodel, who once graced the pages of American Vogue and The New York Times, has an affinity for timeless style that dates back to her upbringing in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Reminiscent of Nineties' minimalism, Vessel by Lois embodies streamlined comfort and elegant ease down to the smallest detail.

Puritan and undeniably feminine, her Fall collection is a study in chic propriety that takes its cue from utilitarian and traditional menswear. Modern women will discover their next beloved staple in the most recent line, which includes a brilliant pair of chic overalls, tailored to exquisite perfection.

A model who came face-to-face with racism in the Nineties, Samuels names diversity as one of her primary goals for the collection: "I want the brand to be ageless and global, representing different types of women," she says. "There are pieces in here a mother would love, and styles her teenage daughter would want to wear. No matter their age or background, I want women to feel beautiful, feminine and empowered by my work."

New Face Alert: Alexia Palmer

Another Jamaican will be making her debut at NYFW!

For S/S I introduced you to Ornelia, for F/W it's all about Alexia! Scouted last September at Pulse's annual CMS Live Show - the same show that brought you the likes of Jaunel McKenzie, Nell Robinson, Gaye McDonald and Jeneil Williams - Alexia is the latest Jamaican model to be snapped up by an international agency in the form of TRUMP Models. Although not winning the top prize at last year's event - that prize eventually going to another doe-eyed stunner Hanna Lettman - this gamine beauty with the knife-like cheekbones is currently in NYC doing the rounds in preparation for the upcoming show season. We wish her all the best in her impending career and to the rest of the world we say she's definitely one to watch.:flower:

There normally are, but Pulse has a prob I think in usually focusing on one girl at a time - their cash cow as I like to call it. Maybe it's a case of being ineffective as an agency, sheer laziness, not really knowing the market(s) or running on simple luck. Unlike Saint Intl. which normally has several working international girls at any one time and consistently finding new faces, it isn't the case generally with Pulse. So we'll see...
