Either Variety was making the whole thing up or they got their rumors wrong, because Nolan just officially confirmed JGL's role in TDKR:

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman).
