Karl Lagerfeld disses Heidi Klum

Heidi's never been a high fashion model, so I don't even know why Karl bothered to point out the obvious.

She's an immensely successful model who started out doing lucrative ads and catalogues, who moved on to swimsuit work and Victoria's Secret, with editorials for magazines who embraced her more sporty look, like US Elle - and of course Vogue Germany, who love to promote girls from their own country - while carving out a career on TV in several countries, and becoming part of a celebrity couple.

Who needs high fashion when you have all that?

He may be the Kaiser, but I thought those disses were very inapropriate and not very chic. The bitchiness only takes you so far, Lagerfeld, try to be a bit classy about people who had lupus and women who have had children (and are by NO means fat!)

Is Heidi Klum a supermodel, yes. Is Heidi Klum a high fashion model, no.

I still question the use of "Supermodel". Models like Erin O'Conner have commented that they just don't exist in todays world.

To me, to be a "Supermodel" would imply being involved in the fashion world, and involves runway and designers. Maybe Heidi has done more work than I am aware of, but I don't think she has walked Paris or Milan as a part or recognizable face of any of the major fashion lines.

Yes being a Victoria Secret model can be a big deal, but it is not the same prestige of being the face of Chanel, Versace, Gucci or who ever else you want to but on your list of design houses.

People by may argue semantics, but what separates and defines a supermodel to me is:

-- Highly paid elite fashion model
-- Worldwide reputation
-- High fashion/Couture & Commercial modeling

So when you look at Cindy, Linda, Claudia, Elle, Christy, Naomi, and even Kate Moss... They all fit that mold.

Heidi may have done runway modeling for VS, but that hardly compares walking the runway of a Paris show.

There have also been debates in some of the other threads as "can a TV show make some one a Supermodel," and for the most part, it may open doors, but unless you hit all three, you are just a "successful" model in a particular niche... "Supermodel" connoting they to EVERYTHING, which clearly Heidi has not.

In my book, I start off with "What is a model?" To me, a model is someone who is signed (or could be signed) by a modeling agency (or the modeling division if it is a talent agency). If IMG, Women, Elite, Supreme, Beatrice, Next, etc. get a cut of the work that you do, then you are a model. A supermodel is a model who is recognized for her actual modeling work by those outside the fashion community and fashion followers. I do believe that there should be some degree of diversity in the model's career, so if a model's resume begins and ends with SI or walking runways, I don't consider her a supermodel.

Heidi has not done a lot of high fashion work, but she has done fashion work. I am not going to fault her for bypassing low-paying / no paying runway and editorial work and breaking directly into campaign and commercial modeling.

That's just what I was thinking... I don't get his point?

Either way, she has become very successful and popular in television and with more commercial brands like VS... & Say what you want about that, at least she seems to be much busier then some of the other 'proper supermodels' these days. :innocent:

I don't care how talented a designer he may be, the arrogance is just plain ugly. :yuk:

i'm steering clear of the intellectualization of uncle karl's little senior moment and would just like to say this is bloody hilarious.

^ you took the woeds from my mounth.
great answer.^_^

Funny how you wouldn't hear Karl b*tch about anyone in the 90's.
It must have been hard to be a fat designer covered in the shadow of Chanel while other designers get all the praise for having their own succesful labels.

Fashion is a tough world when you don't have the looks. The best ones are the ones who play a fair game while getting what they want.Others get stuck in their own issues and bitter...That's Karl.

What I find even more stupid than his own bitching comments is the fact that he's not even cutting against the grain, he's just praising the acclaimed ones.I only accept bitchiness when you're being controversial or provocative, not a sissy who needs to prove how 'tough he can be ' to the big guns.

90's Karl or 00's Karl it's the same, he's far from being HOT, it's not like he's very wow! now only 'cause he's thin.

and he has always been bitchy.

What was his point? Last time I checked Heidi was better known than Karl or Claudia^_^ Who's laughing at who? Who's looking desperate for attention?

if thats true

then someone should tell him that :

he and Seal were created by the same GOD !!! if he just will understand what that mean  :yuk:

it's pretty sure that losing weight has got its way with his already inflated ego.I've been reading magazines since the 90's.I can't remember him making a single bitchy comment back then (or he certainly wasn't permanently yacking about vain stuff against celebrities as he is now) .And yes, he still does look like crap even now. However,he's been acting arrogant around the time he got thin. He's always been ****ing obsessed with weight (others's and his), but now that he's looking better (by his standards) he can't shut his hate hole.

It's not the 'bitching' part that irritates me, it's the way he constantly attacks other celebs to prove how 'cool' he can be by kissing the **** of the cool 'celebs' by opposition.

Heidi could be modelling on Pluto and she'd still be hotter than Karl.

Ive never understood the hype around Karl Lagerfeld, his "wit" and "humour" is immature and stupid. I could come up with a million insults about some models but it's barely wit, it's just opinion.

He's probably fed those lines by some assistant.

Karl obviously needs to talk about people to make himself feel better...he is an a**wipe for saying that

They should really stop calling Heidi Klum a supermodel, like in the articles I read about this. It's really annoying and insulting to the original Supermodels. It's like calling the Jonas Brothers Rock Legends you can't do that!!
She has done nothing to fashion and barely anything to the modeling world. Most of her success comes from Hollywood, and I don't even consider it to be a model on a fashion cover when she's on them-she's a celebrity. You know it when she has a True Hollywood Story

sorry, it had to be said :ninja:

Karl's latest target: Audrey Tautou!
As far as Chanel couturier, Karl Lagerfeld, is concerned, diminutive French actress Audrey Tautou is so last season. Tatou starred in the latest commercial for No. 5, as well as the film Coco Before Chanel.

However, in a recent interview with Premiere in France, Audrey was asked if she often wears Chanel, she replied, "Sometimes. This morning, I wore the rain boots."

This did not sit well with Lagerfeld, who subsequently joked, "I didn't even know we made rain boots. After that, I don't have to be nice." He then added that he would have preferred Penelope Cruz represent the fashion house. Ooh, that's tantamount to getting a fingerless glove slap to the face.
