The blogosphere’s been buzzing about the new Martin Scorsese-directed Chanel commercial currently shooting in New York, but Chic’s got your scoop. The crew has been spotted at Moto in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, but they’ve also taken the production underground, Chic Report has learned–shooting scenes in the subway in midtown Manhattan. And though the model guessing game has brought up such names as Lara Stone, current campaign faces Freja Beha Erichsen and Claudia Schiffer, and Karl fave Baptiste Giabiconi, we’re happy to report that the lucky two are none other than French actor Gaspard Ulliel (who made an appearance at the Chanel Fall 2009 RTW show in Paris last March) and Canadian model Ingrid Schram. One face missing from the filming festivities (which, we hear, are going on all week)? Mr. Lagerfeld himself. We suppose if you’re going to leave someone in charge, Scorsese’s not a bad bet.

Layoffs Hit Karl Lagerfeld
Chanel laid off 200 employees at the end of 2008 and Fendi’s yet to address the recession, but Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous label’s started cutting back.
Beth Shapiro, the Director of Global Marketing and Public Relations for Lagerfeld, is leaving the company this Friday, January 15th.
Her email started out with, “the current environment has forced us to downsize.”
Shapiro was the go-to person for US press, handling sample requests and tickets to Lagerfeld’s show in Paris. Jess Movold will handle the former and no word on the latter.
Guess there’s not a huge demand for iPod holding fur motorcycle helmets and leather sun dresses.

they are not laying off people because of the recession, they are just preparing for me to join the company. Of course one must have the privilege to choose a nice position, and that's why they are "clearing off" some spots for me.
Director of Global Marketing and Public Relations seems close enough to Karl, no? like the kind of person that would have an excuse to be close to karl like... like 24/7?

If Karl's style is horrid, then the rest of the world is doomed. I can't think of anyone, real or celeb, who has such distinct way of dressing without being (too) trashy or boring beyond imagination. I mean, should Karl dress a la Kennedies, ill-fitting suits and polo shirts?
