Kristen Stewart

She looks amazing imo :)
the whole sci fi-y look is working, even her tattoo.

^ agree: there's a nourish bladerunner vibe to this that suits kristen's demeanour much better than all that ladylike pastel they put her in for harper's. she should always dress more like this.

I really don't like that dress on her, I don't find it flattering at all. I don't understand why her stylist keep putting those sorts of shapes on her, when even though she's petite, she clearly has a broader upper body. Yet they always put her in stuff with exaggerated shoulders or strapless dresses, which I don't find flattering on her.
Otherwise, and to end with a compliment, I like what they did to her hair, and I agree that this sheer black fabric suits her personality much more than the pink pearls and pastels

She looked stunning in this dress. And the hair and make-up as well. Love it all!

I agree. Her hair and make up is killer but this dress makes her look boxy.

I think it's the very first time when I thought "Kristen, you look great in Chanel" :)
Love her face at the close up from show.

so i watched still alice yesterday, which is a good, but not great, film. julianne's performance is great, but it's far from her best work; she was way more outstanding in boogie nights, or safe, or the kids are all right or even short cuts, imo.

but i was struck by how good and how authentic kristen stewart's acting is in still alice. i really think she is underrated. i know she just won a big award in france, but i think she should've been nominated for her performance in this film. she was also phenomenal as joan jett in the runaways.

unfortunately she got sidelined by those bad vampire movies, but i hope she now can continue to get good roles. she's very talented, and lovely, too, on screen.

^ I think she was authentic in Still Alice because she wasnt really acting but was just being Kristen, which is not really a good thing for an actress imo (when you cant separate the persona from the character). The scene where they were having lunch in the cafeteria (or something like that, I dont remember the actual setting) it reminded me of almost every interview she's ever done: she was fidgety, her leg was shaking, same old same old.
The only scene I really appreciated was the last one when she reads to her mother, she was nothing like she presents herself... she was collected and serene, she didnt stutter or acted nervous, she didnt constantly blink. I really liked her work during that particular scene. But I dont think it was worthy of a nomination. The thing with Kristen is that it seems that other actresses are the favorites for getting noms even if they dont really deserve them, like Lawrence or Stone imo.

well i'll agree to disagree. i teach film so i am always obsessing over it ha ha ;) and was talking with a former actress today; we both agreed her performance was immersive and believable.

i do agree with you that the final scene was the real standout - fantastic scene by kristen. however, even when she talks to her mom on Skype, or the first time she asks her how her disease feels, those seemed so real to me.

and about "playing herself" - sometimes that's down to good casting. or even type casting. trying to get the actor who's most suited to the part. but it's still acting.

agree - there are definitely "favourites" in the industry.

If you want to see some more of Kristen's range, I recommend watching The Cake Eaters or Speak. She plays a girl with a motor neuron disease, and people who watched the movie genuinely thought she had the disease. And she did Speak when she was 13, and her character literally doesn't speak for 90% of the film, and she still gives a great performance considering her age and that limitation. The Yellow Handkerchief with Eddie Redmayne is also a favourite of mine. ^_^

^by far, Speak is her best performance up to date imo. Because she was so young then I would think her work´s quality would have improved, right? maybe she got self concious as she grew up?

Interesting to see this discussion happening now because I watched Camp X-Ray yesterday and she's nothing short of amazing in that movie, and this is coming from someone that finds her absolutely odious off screen and until now, a one dimensional celebrity. Her Still Alice performance did nothing for me, in fact her last scene made me anxious because you can feel the pressure on her to wrap up the film and sum up all these emotions (while Julianne More stares at you and hangs from there!) and instead we get her usual mumbling and the old trick of shaking her jaw and tensing up her face in order to fool the viewer that her character is so in the depths of the storyline. Kind of makes you wish Buñuel was alive to take her to boot camp.

That said! she may not need him or anyone at all, cause she had Camp X-Ray all for her from beginning to end and she somehow manages to come out of her shell and use all the characteristics of her acting (some more irritating than others) and still engages the viewer and brings out all these thoughts and feelings on such a sensitive topic by (finally) mental elements that you can hear in her lines (brief- being a soldier), stares.. it's very sincere. She made me cry at the end!. You can tell (or maybe that's just excellent acting) that this is something she believes in, and that makes me like her a little more, and forget what happened between Into the Wild and this film.

Would also like to point out that Peyman Moaadi is so good (as usual), maybe that contributed, or not, but either way she's lucky!
