i am reminded of chanel as well...
that is just what i thought..modern, loosened up chanel...
the leather top is nice to me...and reminds me of something elbaz did at YSL...
I'm quite fond of that top as well, plus, the leather kind of shakes things up in the midst of all that softness.

Some very nice stuff, but I don't get all the excitement surrounding Lanvin.

Not as impressive as last season..but that would have been hard to beat..but not bad..not bad indeed.

i like it...it's not as "wow" as last season, but he's been consistent.

here's the review from wwd:

A keen sense of expectation hung in the air before Alber Elbaz’s Lanvin show on Sunday, and with good reason. Over the past few seasons, Elbaz’s massively chic collections have drawn in fans and converts at exponential rates and have received lavish editorial attention. Indie celebrities, including Sofia Coppola, Chloë Sevigny and Natalie Portman, have all endorsed the brand with their cool. And Elbaz has quadrupled ready-to-wear and accessories sales since signing on in 2002, despite the constraints he endures at a house house with financial trouble. It’s all added up to buzz — major buzz — and major expectations.

This season, under the pressure to thrill once again, Elbaz took an interesting — and smart — turn, backing away from some of the artsiness and unfinished hems that he’s become known for in favor of a more polished approach. The look smacked of both undeniable chic and sound salabilty, with Elbaz’s once-pleasing awkwardness glossed up into a sleek affair. Jackets were nipped in at the waist whether paired with full skirts or those that slightly belled. Coats, while more relaxed, were still very clean cut. Meanwhile, serious eveningwear — and there was lots of it — came in a wide range. The most daring was his simplest, a gorgeous draped gown in gym suit-gray jersey done up with a loopy black bow at the bodice. The most va-va-voom were fitted snug and bustling with tiered tulle.

It’s Alber’s moment alright, and he’s trained his whopping talent on making that sweet moment last.

the collection does nothing for me and that makes me sad.

I really, really liked it. It certainly wasn't Elbaz' best collection, but it delivered the key pieces he's made Lanvin signatures....specifically the pretty little dresses and chic overcoats....as I said, not his best, but certainly not bad.

Elbaz...great again and again and again...sheer genius. I love it - not as much as I loved last season, but still great! :) Too bad I can't own a piece right now...haha.

very elegant and very simple. some of the looks were completely off target for me, but by and large this collection captured the spirit of lanvin and showed reasonable growth. but i think he needs to step up his game as pilati's offereing a slightly more intriguiging version of french elegance (esp. that voluminous skirt)...

I don't get the Chanel comments. To me, Chanel under Karl Kagerfeld = Kitschy. Occasionally it's cute, but most of the time I hate it (pastel tweed suits?).

Lanvin's Spring collections tend to be stronger. The bejewelled dresses (SS03), seamless frocks (SS04), and goddessy gowns (SS05) that put Lanvin back on the map were all made in spring.

This show is pretty good compared to AW04, but like AW04, it could benefit from better editing. I esp. wasn't fond of the flow of the presentation--it's got a lot of hidden treasures and beautiful pieces if you look closely, but the whole show wasn't particularly memorable. Come to think of it, Balenciaga prob. has the best presentation. Regardless of the design, it has always been able to declare its theme and make a strong impact from the first few looks. Lanvin needs that. I was not a fan of their AW03 collection which opened with a red pleated dress worn by Natalia, but that was prob. the best edited winter collection for Lanvin.

But I'm glad that he's done with those puffy coats/skirt suits in fuschia [sp] or yelllow.

Style.com mentioned that Lanvin was handicapped by the absence of top models, which were booked at Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Hm, that's strange. Agencies wouldn't consider Lanvin one of the hottest label of the moment? Plus, they've got Lily Donaldson, who opened one of the other high-profiled shows too.

The jewels and the coats are fabulous:

Love these two looks:

This would've been so great if the model didn't look so clueless:

This look belongs to Eugenia Volodina:

But Diana Dondoe did just fine. Surprising, since she's about 5"8 only.

I thought this was a strange comment. There was Gemma Ward, Karen Elson, Erin Wasson, Natasha Poly, Bianca Balti, Julia Stegner, Heather Marks and so on. I don't know what particuliar top models were missing.

I agree, a bit of a disapointment as compared to last season. But LibertyRose, the 5th and 7th looks you chose were exquisite.

This shares a similarity with some of the dresses Aquascutum did this season:

I'm sure everyone's seen the whole collection, but here are just a few more looks I liked:
