Lanvin Resort 2010

simply love.

:wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

my heart is literally racing. like, i am in the process of dying. i'm so happy that alber took a step back from all that silly lanvin self-seriousness and just let loose! having seen the entire collection, i pray that he brings just a hint of this spirit into his main collection for spring.

seriously, i know that no one does french elegance like alber elbaz, but in these dreary times, this is EXACTLY what the fashion customer needs: happy escape. also, from a purely pragmatic perspective, kudos to alber for giving us cute sneaks (we can afford), cute jewelry (we can afford), and the occassional quirky appurtenance. even if most can't buy those dresses, they can still afford to get a part of this vision and pair it with the high street basics they can afford.

^ Those sneakers aren't what I call affordable ... about $600 if I recall.

I do like this a lot better for having seen the whole thing (the monstrous black Frida look doesn't seem to be there??), but I still much prefer pre-fall. Glamour is escape too ...

I like the playful shots, but they make it difficult to actually see the clothes ... one thing that's nice about it, it really is a resort collection.

have you priced out a lanvin dress lately? most of his NECKLACES cost more than that....

$600 for a designer flourish is a bargain especially since i'm sure they'll go on sale (in fact, there's a pair on barneys.com right now that's around three hundred bucks).

$600 buys a lot of designer shoe ...

I actually don't really understand his pricing. Many of the necklaces cost the same as the smaller bags, or sometimes even more ... that makes no sense to me. Because after all, they're typically just fake pearls and ribbon. I just tried on a skirt, a fairly basic but very nicely made matte satin pencil skirt, for about $1000. I would definitely buy that before the $600 sneakers ...

I'm sure there's handwork that goes into the jewelry, but still ... the profit margin must be amazing.

oh, no doubt. but we're in the era of the four figure luxury purchase which -- despite the economic downturn -- finds most items priced above that. especially for pieces that can make a statement in a variety of different looks. i mean, even michelle obama wears the lanvin sneaker (to do charity work no less).

yes, and it's these high gross margin pieces that keep smaller houses like lanvin piping along. he doesn't have a conglomerate behind this label able to float it through the hard times like so many others....:innocent:

also, let's face it. you can wear a lanvin necklace TO DEATH....it works with everything from the white hanes tee to the couture gown.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! i feel as if alber was thinking of me when he did this collection. the energy and the buzz is amazing!!! the clothes...so beautiful.. and very very cute sneakers!!! what an amazing time to be a bride!!! even the white suit:D

I love the colours and especially the vibe of this collection.
The background is hilarious.

A few unflattering shapes but overall a good resort collection.
edit:
The styling is not very good though.

I think this is beautiful. AE obviously has a very light hand and a fantastic sense of humour.

A flower pin is bigger than any other one you may be able to find. There is one more bracelet; two, three prints. Of course, we might be indebted to these ideas to Yohji Yamamoto or Balenciaga or even Queen Elizabeth the 1st, but to see these idea through a different lens is really awesome.

It's difficult to describe, but every minute detail makes so much sense!

i like those two floral prints that are in black and white...and grey...
makes me think of an old black and white movie...
like king kong or something like that..
^_^

wish that he had taken that idea and explored it further and built a whole collection around that concept..
THAT would have been lovely...

this is ok...
not impressed with pulling the men's sneakers over into womenswear...
totally commercial move and not worthy of elbaz imho..
he can do better...

most of it is still completely impractical for any modern woman's lifestyle...
but that is sort of standard for lanvin..
:P

totally totally agree with you about the trainers....its sooooo naff...not cool at all....they look sh*it........dunno why he did this other than the money....

How charming and elegant, and off course only Albert is the only one who could pull this off.

Some of the dresses are amazing, styling is actually terrible and so boring. Makes the 2 pink dresses look like old Galliano. Does Catherine Baba style this?

I DIED seeing the rest ... Albaz n Tisci are the bombs ...

ITA!!!!! Well said, mikeijames!
When I started to buy Lanvin, I used to think the prices were a little absurd, and I still do to an extent.....but comparing couture-like Lanvin quality with attention to all the details to other high-end designer clothes(owned by one of the conglomerates), you can REALLY see the difference.
Same thing with Chanel. I can appreciate those small independedt houses that like to keep their human touch...so much more special than yet another piece of mass-marketed garment or bags plastered with logos manufactured by machines:wink:

Now that I saw everything, I actually quite like this pre-spring collection. I certainly like it a lot more than last Cruise collection!

It's like the House is going back to the early 20th century part of it's history. Love it.

How great! To me, Elbaz and Lagerfeld made the best resort 2010 collections.
