'Hills' Star Lauren Conrad Says People Have 'Low Expectations' For Her Book Series

'These aren't meant to be very serious books,' she says of upcoming 'L.A. Candy' series.

Lauren Conrad is branching out. Last week, the "Hills" star announced that she would be adding author to her growing résumé.

MTV News caught up with Conrad to find out if she's feeling the pressure of her new literary career. "I think because I have a reality show, they have low expectations," she said. "These aren't meant to be very serious books. They're very fun. They're a light read. So hopefully people will just enjoy them."

Conrad, who had always dreamed of writing a book of some sort, elaborated a little about the plot for the "L.A. Candy" book series. "We threw around a few ideas, possibly on dating or fashion," she said. "But I love writing stories, so we came up with this idea about loosely basing it on my story with completely different people, just kind of the same situation.

"We can have fun with it, 'cause we spent five years on camera, but there was a completely different story off camera being told," she added. "It'll focus on that side of it."

The first book in the three-book series is expected to hit stores next summer, and Conrad has already completed the outline and will now write the novel. "I'm having a lot of fun with it," she said. "It's definitely a little bit more edgy. Just very real."

Let's not forget that other project Lauren is working on: the always drama-filled soap opera known as "The Hills." Lauren loves to watch it and see how her life is interpreted for everyone's viewing pleasure. "It's fun [to watch]. It's kind of neat to see how the producers and editors take your story and put them into a TV show," she said.

And even Lauren is excited to see what will happen next in her life. "I don't [what will happen]. It's catching up in real time, so we'll see what happens."

Lauren also will be showing her collection at L.A. fashion week in a few weeks. She gave a few hints about what everyone should expect from it. "I mean, it's spring," she said. "A brushstroke, a floral print, and I added chiffon. It's very sweet."

Lauren Conrad gave ETonline.com a little bit of a sneak peek on the dress she created for one of this year’s Emmy Awards presenters. The designer reveals that she chose to do the gown in green to go with the theme of this year’s show. The Hills‘ star also added a diamond broach to the dress to symbolize the Emmys’ diamond anniversary. And while Lauren won’t be matching her on-stage creation exactly, she does reveal that her navy gown is made of the same fabric and will also have diamond broaches on it. We can’t wait to see what Lauren has planned.

i noticed the shadow on her lip in the latest hills stills and searched for the word "mustache" in this thread and was surprised to see that although people have talked about her having a "mustache" no one has known what it is. i thought i'd solve the mystery.

apparently lauren has a skin condition called melasma. i know because i got the same thing this summer. it's a hyperpigmentation caused by hormones and brought out by exposure to the sun. it's common in women who are on the pill or pregnant. because it's hormonal it only appears on certain areas of the skin, the upper lip being very common, and unfortunately can take the shape of a mustache. there are some women who get it all over their face (forehead, cheeks, upper lip, nose). there's no cure but it will fade over time if she stays out of the sun (some dermatologists recommend bleaching creams and/or chemical peels). i've included a link if anyone wants to read more about it.

At the Nanette Lepore show, she wore a Dogeared boxed mini pendant. Sorry, I couldn't ID the longer necklace she wore that day and at the end of summer bash.

She's worn the Beckerman Love Arrow gold necklace recently.

She wears a small hamsa necklace 24/7. And she loves to wear the Aris Geldis crystal and brass key necklace - which I can't find anywhere anymore. It used to be available at Madison LA and other online boutiques. I searched for it and could only find it on the seenon site, so I guess its sold out.

She wore that same Dogeared pendant and the mark. Have A Heart necklace to her OC show.

stateofbliss thanks for posting the pics of lauren's house. it's interesting to see it in stills as you can't really see it properly in the show. her style is very pretty, but a little old fashioned. i really liked the look of lauren & audrina's apartment, i prefer it to the house, but i still think the house is lovely. i think that audrina's taste in interior design is nicer than lauren's, which is funny beacuse i like lauren's taste in fashion better!

I don't see what's wrong with her getting a book deal. She's building a brand for herself - and she's the only reality star besides Paris and Nicole that's been able to do so. She's got a huge fan base and people have followed her life from high school on. HarpersCollins also published Nicole's book and that was a fun read. And I'm sure a ghost writer will help her along the way - they do for most celebs. I think it'll be interesting to get a behind the scenes account of The Hills. Why not take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way? I'm pretty sure she's getting good money for this too.
