but she is a socialite for her marriage with andres santodomingo.

is an carolyn bessette & grace kelly mix

^ I don't know specifics of the decision, but my guess is it comes down to which is she more. If you notice in this thread, there's been a lot of questioning about 'Does she still work for Vogue?' Which tells me that's not her primary identity ...

I believe Plum Sykes' thread is here as well?

I know there have been a few references to Carolyn Bessette Kennedy but I really don't see it... Carolyn Bessette's style was very classy (as well as classic), minimalist and luxurious all at the same time. She was very consistent in her style.

Lauren's style on the other hand can be very inconsistent... While I like some of the things she wears, she's more trendy than classic and can wear things that are quite loud in their nature (like the recent PS dress). She is also not as conservative a dresser as CBK was, wearing low cut short dresses which CBK never wore (at least not in public).

Both of them are tall, willowy, blonde and possess an unconventional type of beauty but that's where the similarities end if you ask me.

I think she looks like Carolyn face-wise and of course has the Connecticut pedigree, but I agree style is a different story. It's very hard to emulate Carolyn Bessette.

Carolyn Bessette had an organic grace and poise that Lauren lacks.

She also had a kind of rock star cool way of carrying herself.

Lauren wears some great things but some of her outfits seem costume like and affected and they wear her instead of the other way around.

Also, she's very flashy and in your face where CB was at the other end of that spectrum. Compare their wedding dresses for example.

I can't see it as well.
Adding to what you have already said, Carolyn was stunning imo (if on the unconventional side) and extremely charismatic with a regal aura.

Lauren isn't in the same league, not even close.
She is average looking at best and dull. All her outfits wear her because she has no presence.
The most flattering thing I can say about her is that she is good at selecting cute pieces from the current collections, and that she is a good clothes hanger. She could have been one of those mid-range models if only she had a better face.

No matter what we think, however, Lauren was smart enough to marry a billionaire. I agree that her style doesn't have the natural elan of CBK. She looks like a rich UES socialite, not unique in the way CBK was.

I also find Lauren's style all over the place... I think she tries a little too hard to be edgy, whereas CBK knew what worked for her and stuck to it.

It's worth noting that Lauren has a more rarefied background than Carolyn did ... and possibly less to prove.

Perhaps what some mistake for "trying to hard" is simply experimentation? Everyday she is lucky enough to to play "dress up" with access to the best clothing and accessories money can buy. Why stick to a uniform? What would be the fun in that?!

Nice outfit but she looks so tired and washed out. I never get the joie de vivre vibe from her. Maybe it's the limp hair (I never really thought her hair did her wonders either).

I'm somewhat reluctant to re-open this can of worms, however one can argue that the time when Carolyn was popular was when the whole Calvin Klein minimalist look was in (and yes, she certainly helped promote the look). Additionally she was involved with Calvin Klein, and that obviously influenced her aesthetic, and due to her position of being the wife of JFK Jnr I would propose that it would have been socially more acceptable for her to dress in more classic, understated looks.

Lauren Santo Domingo on the other hand works at Vogue where she would be exposed to so many different trends, and has not married a scion of a 'great American political family' so does not have any societal requirements of dressing in the same way. Whilst I've been a harsh critic on her constant trend-hopping, I don't think it necessarily shows that she is somewhat inferior status/class/fashion-wise. She tries 'harder' in the sense of more "wow, look how I can pair my Proenza pieces with new season Phi!!" to appeal to the 'fashion' crowd rather than the traditional 'high society' crowd.

Additionally, Lauren has also worked as a model (I'm pretty sure she once said that she once modelled alongside Brad Pitt in a jeans ad - I can't find this image online though!)

To me, Grace Kelly, CBK and Lauren are all just so different it never even occurred to me to compare them with each other.

^I agree with most of what you said and I didn't mean to criticize Lauren's style b/c like I said, I do like what she wears occasionally (that's why I visit her thread) but I do agree that she seems like she tries too hard and lacks that joie de vivre vibe.

Mainly, I just wanted to point out that the Carolyn Bessette references were unfounded b/c CBK had a completely different style and that je ne sais quoi quality that Lauren IMO does not.
