Legendary Designer Yves Saint Laurent Dies at 71

how very PC and hypocritical of you to state such things dior....no need in getting preachy. as if your beloved behind your nickname and your favourites list is and ever has been the healthiest of them all.....same goes for donatella(she could be a proxy for skin cancer awareness...among the same things you're talking in respect of Yves). don't try and single him out. the man is 70...alot of people that age who never had the kind of lifestyle he's had still have health problems.

keep believing that...,

I respect Saint Laurent´s work and his tremendous legacy to the fashion world, but just look at his similars (rich, successful designers, no common mortals) who´s perfumes aren´t called opium and champagne and do the math, I haven´t invented anything...
And indeed the fashion world is filled with excess and unhealthy habits that shorten the life of those we look up to, which we should, if we are smart enaugh though, look up as an example of what actually happen even to those we think are untouchable, but yet again, we can all post our thoughts, that´s why this place was created, and if you think Saint Laurent can´t even walk at a very young age considering life standars today, and knowing he doesn´t have any sort of degenerative disease, because he is just "old", that´s up to you.

^^ Regarding the above, I think there is a mountain of evidence that his problems were related to prolonged psychiatric issues and that the "unhealthy lifestyle" was essentially a result of that...:(

Dior,
I am agreeing with scott on this one,
While i can understand what you are saying about "how not to live ones life" I think it is somewhat improper for you to say it now, simply because we do not know for Certain as to what the nature of his illness is. It may or may not be linked to early Drug use, we DONT KNOW............
On top of that, he has been known historically to be a fragile person, what we ought to understand is this, we cannot control how we come into this world, and we certainly cannot control how or when we leave it (at least excepting suicide)............. A man living seventy years is a long life, epscially for what he has accomplished,
Gianni Versace was a young, healthy man whose life was cut short by a murderer, we just witnessed the sad passing of Mr. Ferre, who was not known fot taking Drugs, so while we know that drugs are dangerous and damaging, there is nothing here to suggest that his past use is the cause of his illness now.

ok kids, let´s take YSL´s life as an example of how we shouldn´t live our own, for those that don´t know, Mr Saint laurent had a very unhealthy, abusive life style (drug and alcohol abuse), couldn´t stop smoking even at fittings or choosing fabrics, and so on.

He is as old as Karl Lagerfeld, Armani and Valentino, who lead a much controled life style and look...

you're the kind of person who puts their children in a OCD-control-freak-bubble aren't you? im not advocating drugs or alcohol, but everyone makes mistakes and has problems... YSL chose to do what he did with his life... and i think now is hardly the time for something like this. at least he probably knew more about respect than you do, even with his purportedly abusive life style.

Ouch!! No one is perfect - let's not judge M. Laurent's past but concentrate on healing thoughts for his recovery and send strength to his partner - they must both be suffering right now.

it's true. it's completely disrespectful to get on this kind of bandwagon and start suggesting things one knows not a miniscule of in fact.

Obviously his drug and alcohol abuse hasn't helped his health. And it could be said that Karl's current vitality is due to his lack of drinking and using drugs. Whatever. Saint Larent's health issues started well before he started drinking and such. Hopefully he'll be alright or at least in not too much pain.

I really believe it is out of place that one should get all righteous about unrelated subjects like self abuse problems that are rife in the industry.

That is perhaps best suited to another thread on the casualties of the industry.

Let's wish M. Saint Laurent the very best.

I won’t apologize for my post because I wasn’t disrespectful to anyone around, but while I was reading all previous post I felt like there was a huge pink elephant no one was talking about, I think that if the only thing we are allow to post when reading this sort of news are ones wishing he gets better, and wont go further, the whole idea of debating looses a huge amount of interest.

I'll just say that, if you make your bed, go lay in it.

that's all. nobodies business but his.

Most likely, people got angry because you jumped to a conclusion without any evidence to back it up. And if you want to talk about "common morals," maybe you should try showing compassion toward the sick.

hope he gets well too..
but is it just me
or how many times have i heard/read that Yves Saint Laurent is already dead?
Died in 2000, I think

^ My mother was surprised to learn that he wasn't dead when I told her he was hospitalized. I suppose that's the conclusion most jump to when they don't hear about someone for years.
