Legendary Designer Yves Saint Laurent Dies at 71

i think the last time he even made a public statement was when he made those comments about tom ford a year before tom left. it's true,he's been very much a recluse but that's not surprising for anyone that's retired,i think. it also could be said, these presumtions, could based upon his very public fragile health before retiring.....everybody knew he was ill then. but 2000,though? that's ridiculous....he didn't even retire till 2002 which was plastered all over the news.

Good news! It seems M. Saint-Laurent is out of hospital. I read a rumor that he may be in Morocco for convalescence with his life partner.

Yves Saint-Laurent awarded high French honour

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday awarded haute couture fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent the title of Great Officer in the Legion of Honour as part of a batch of annual Bastille Day decorations.

Saint-Laurent, born in 1936 in Oran in Algeria, had already been made a Commander in the Legion of Honour by former President Jacques Chirac.

Saint-Laurent, who lives in seclusion with his partner Pierre Berge and is in poor health, was admitted to the American Hospital in Paris earlier this week, but on Saturday the hospital said he was no longer there.

The bespectacled Saint-Laurent, whose creations were admired around the world, ruled the French fashion scene from the age of 21 until his retirement in 2002.

2000 , 2002, 2003 it's all a blur to me :ninja:
high school years ..

I agree though, in several 'bios' I've read of him, he seems ill quite often
Nice to hear he is fine now, SomethingElse

thank you somethingelse for the good news, you desrve a karma ;)

:o:o:o
I don't pray often but I am gonna pray for him tonight. I checked out his "life achievement" thread recently and only than found out he's unwell  He is not that old nowdays, he could have another good 20 years to live. I hope he recovers soon! Yves, our hearts and thoughts are with you!

I don't want to be a wet blanket, but...When he was hospitalized there were 500 news items about it and I've been checking AP and Reuters all day and there is no mention anywhere of him being discharged (other than that one line above from the award story)...Wouldn't that be a major story, especially in France?

Well he's had so many health scares that maybe it's not a big story anymore? I don't know :)

I'm glad he's better!

He may have slipped out quietly but who knows? I hope the award brings him joy! And I do hope he's in Morocco instead of a stuffy hospital.
